(Minghui.org) Mr. Chen Jiuwen from Xinbin County, Liaoning Province, was sentenced to two and a half years for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Mr. Chen was home on the afternoon of October 30, 2023, when two police cruisers pulled up. One of them was from the Songyuan City Police Department in Jilin Province. According to insiders, the police targeted him after discovering he posted Falun Gong information on WeChat (a popular Chinese social media platform) using his cell phone. It’s not clear whether he used his phone while visiting Songyuan City.
The police submitted the case to the Qian Gorlos Mongolian Autonomous County (“Qianguo County” for short) Procuratorate. Minghui.org recently learned the Songyuan City Court sentenced him to prison. Songyuan oversees Qianguo.
This is not the first time Mr. Chen has been targeted for his faith. After the persecution began in July 1999, he went to Beijing to appeal and was arrested. He was escorted back and held at the Xinbin County Detention Center. His home was also raided. He was later given three years of forced labor at the Wujiabao Labor Camp in Fushun City (the capital of Liaoning Province).
More than twenty officers from the Fushun City Domestic Security Division broke into Mr. Chen’s home just past 2 a.m. on June 28, 2008. They ransacked his home and confiscated his Falun Gong books, pictures of Falun Gong’s founder, and other valuables. They also impounded his car.
The police next raided his son’s bookstore and seized all the cash and a safe. Mr. Chen’s wife, Ms. Zhao Guirong, and a relative who happened to be visiting the bookstore, were also arrested. The three family members were then taken to the Fushun City Detention Center.
Mr. Chen was driven to a secret location and held in a basement. The police tied him up in a metal chair that was sprayed with black paint. His pants immediately stuck to the paint. The police then used high-voltage electric batons to shock him. They also hit his head with a club. They tortured him this way for several days straight.
Mr. Chen was later sentenced to three years in prison. While serving time at the Xihu Prison, he was tortured and forced to do hard labor without pay.
