(Minghui.org) A married couple in Qingyuan County, Liaoning Province are facing trial for their faith in Falun Gong, and the police threatened to give them heavier sentences if they dared to hire a Beijing lawyer to defend them.
Mr. Chen Guicun and his wife, Ms. Chen Ji’e, were arrested at home around 10 p.m. on July 21, 2025, by 8 plainclothes officers from the Qingyuan County Domestic Security Office. The police raided their place and took Mr. Chen to the Dashagou Detention Center and Ms. Chen to the Nangou Detention Center.
During the raid, the police appeared to know the couple’s home layout clearly and went straight to the attic on a ladder to get their Falun Gong books. The couple’s driving recorder was also tracked by the police. The couple suspected that the police had been monitoring their phone calls and recording them with surveillance cameras.
The couple’s two lawyers met with Mr. Chen on July 29 and Ms. Chen the next day.
Officers Zhang Minghui, Xiu Zhichao, and Xu Ziming interrogated the couple at the detention centers and revealed that the arrests were due to their “hanging up banners reading ‘Falun Dafa is good’ around town.” The police said that there were five tipsters. They submitted the case to the Wanghua District Procuratorate in Fushun City, which oversees Qingyuan County.
The procuratorate returned the case once, citing insufficient evidence. The police resubmitted it and the procuratorate indicted the couple. Minghui.org learned in November 2025 that the case had been forwarded to the Wanghua District Court.
The couple’s two lawyers reviewed the case file on November 26, 2025 and visited them in the afternoon.
Captain Wang Tong from the Qingyuan County Domestic Security Office called the couple’s family recently, threatening to give the couple heavier sentences if they dared to hire a third lawyer from Beijing.

Zhang Xizhu (village head of Qidaohe Village, Wandianzi Town, mobile phone +86- 18341341888): it is unclear what he reported to the police.
He Bing (comprehensive management officer of Wandianzi Town): it is unclear what he reported to the police.
Mother of a local man nicknamed Erbao (mobile phone +86-15241313629): it is unclear what she reported to the police.
