(Minghui.org) A Meizhou City, Guangdong Province, resident was recently sentenced to two and a half years and fined 40,000 yuan because she practices Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.

Ms. Liu Qingling, in her 50s, was arrested on April 23, 2025, by officers from the Meijiang District Domestic Security Office, while she was walking home with her mother, Ms. Li Guiying, who is in her 80s. Ms. Li was released the next day, but Ms. Liu is detained at the Chengdong Detention Center. Her family confirmed her prison sentence in early December 2025, but they don’t know any other details. The court said she would be sent to a prison in Sanshui District, Foshan City, Guangdong Province.

The persecution of Falun Gong has been severe in Meizhou City. At least 78 practitioners have been sentenced to prison since the onset of the persecution in 1999. The 94 prison sentences (as 16 of the practitioners were sentenced twice) were handed down by eight local courts: the Meixian District Court, Meijiang District Court, Jiaoling County Court, Wuhua County Court, Xingning City Court, Dabu County Court, Fengshun County Court and Meizhou City Court.
