(Minghui.org) A woman in Changchun City, Jilin Province, is dealing with declining health while being detained for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.

Ms. Qi Enxiang, a widow in her 50s, was initially arrested in 2023, after a dog owner reported her for talking to him about Falun Gong. Officers from the Jilin Street Police Station took her to a local detention center, but she was denied admission after a physical exam indicated that she was unfit for detention.

The police released Ms. Qi on bail and ordered her to report to them every single day. They threatened to take her back into custody if she failed to comply. They indeed arrested her again on April 23, 2024 and put her in the local detention center. According to an insider, she is now in very poor health after one year and seven months of detention.

Sentenced to 3 Years in 2014

Ms. Qi’s latest persecution episode was preceded by a prior three-year prison sentence. She was arrested a little after 8 a.m. on January 12, 2014, as soon as she stepped outside her apartment complex. Officers from the Changchun City Domestic Security Office raided her home and took her to the Gongjiao Police Station.

From about 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. that day, Ms. Qi was restrained on a tiger bench and interrogated. She was later taken to the Changchun City Third Detention Center and given weekly physical exams. She was found to have high blood pressure and abnormal heart conditions.

The Erdao District Court sentenced Ms. Qi to three years on November 5, 2014 and she was admitted to the Jilin Province Women’s Prison on January 8, 2015.

During her two years and four days in the prison, Ms. Qi was not allowed to step outside her cell for two full years. Four inmates worked in two shifts to monitor her around the clock. For over three months in a row, she was also forced to sit on a small stool for long hours every day. Her buttocks festered as a result.

The day before her release, Ms. Qi was allowed to give her family a call. She told them that she developed hypertension and heart disease as a result of abuse. The guards immediately ended the call.

Ms. Qi was released on January 12, 2017 and her pension was stopped in August 2020.
