(Minghui.org) A 73-year-old woman in Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province, has been detained for one week and counting because of her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
The Dongan District Police Department forced Ms. Chen Yanwei’s two family members to turn her in to the Jiangnandiyi Police Station at around 9:30 a.m. on October 29, 2025. As soon as they arrived, the two family members’ cell phones were confiscated for “inspection.”
Ms. Chen was interrogated and then taken to the Daqing Police Station. At 2 p.m., she was driven to the Mudanjiang City Police Department’s Case Management Center for further questioning. Two hours later she was taken back to the Daqing Police Station and had her fingerprints, gait, blood samples, and iris scans collected. After that, she was taken to the Railway Hospital for a physical exam. Her systolic blood pressure registered 180 mmHg (normal is 120 mmHg or lower), and her heart and urine test results were not within the normal range.
Despite her compromised health, the police took Ms. Chen to a detention center. Her family was given a detention notice dated October 29, 2025, 9:40 p.m.
Sister Targeted the Same Day
Ms. Chen’s sister Ms. Chen Yanfu, 70, was also targeted on the same day for practicing Falun Gong. Several officers knocked on the younger Ms. Chen’s door at 8 a.m. on October 29. When she did not respond, the police banged on the door and covered the peephole at one point. At 9 a.m., they started banging on the door again.
Ms. Chen refused to let them in, so they left. They returned in the afternoon to bang on the door again. They didn’t leave until 7 p.m.
At 9:15 a.m. on November 3, 2025, Ms. Chen heard knocking on the door again. The police then began banging on the door. She ignored them. An officer called her at 1:44 p.m. to harass her.
