(Minghui.org) A 67-year-old man in Jiaozhou City, Shandong Province was sentenced to four years in October 2025 and is currently serving time at the Shandong Province Prison (also known as Jinan Men’s Prison).
Mr. Liu Zhaohong was arrested on May 19, 2025, after the police discovered that he had written and mailed out letters to the public exposing the Chinese Communist Party’s ongoing persecution of Falun Gong. He was taken to the Jiaoxi Detention Center the next day. Details of his indictment, trial and sentencing remain unknown.
Mr. Liu, born on July 16, 1958, is a driver at the Jiaozhou Water Bureau. He used to suffer from Hepatitis B, rheumatoid arthritis, heart disease, migraines, and rectal bleeding. After he took up Falun Gong around July 1996, his symptoms disappeared, and he hasn’t needed to see doctors since. His good health also enabled him to become a better worker and he won the “outstanding driver” award every year.
After the persecution began in July 1999, Mr. Liu held firm to his faith and was repeatedly targeted, including serving a five-year prison sentence.

Mr. Liu boarded a train to Beijing on the night of November 19, 1999 and was arrested on Tiananmen Square at around 7 a.m. the next morning. Officers from the Fuan Police Station in Jiaozhou City arrived in Beijing at around 4 a.m. on November 11, 1999 and escorted him back to Jiaozhou.
After 15 days of administrative detention, Mr. Liu was picked up by Ding Shufen, a deputy director at his workplace. She took him straight to a shelter affiliated with the Jiaozhou City Appeals Office and kept him there for more than two months. Mr. Liu made another trip to Beijing on May 13, 2000 and was arrested again on Tiananmen Square. His workplace dispatched people to pick him up at around 6 p.m. on May 17. They drove him straight to the Jiaozhou City Psychiatric Hospital. Ding signed the paperwork to hold him there for more than three months. He was ordered to take pills and get injections of unknown drugs. Whenever he refused, he was force-fed the pills and shocked with electric needles.
Xu Fatian, deputy secretary of the Jiaozhou City Political and Legal Affairs Committee, picked Mr. Liu up from the psychiatric hospital around August 18, 2000 and took him to a brainwashing center. He was not released until late September that year.
Merely days day, around October 1, 2000, secretary Yuan Caizhi from Mr. Liu’s workplace showed up at his home and deceived him into going to the same brainwashing center. He was held there for more than one month before being taken to his workplace for further detention. He was not allowed to go home until around mid-December 2000.
Sentenced to 5 Years

After being interrogated with torture at the Jiaoxi Police Station, Mr. Liu was taken to the Jiaozhou City Detention Center and put in solitary confinement. He went on a hunger strike for at least three weeks and was beaten. The guards also kept him handcuffed and shackled. He was in critical condition at one point.
The Jiaozhou City Court sentenced Mr. Liu to five years in August 2003. Presiding judge Zhao Yutao and judges Chen Min and Zhao Lianqing signed the verdict. Mr. Liu was never asked to sign any paperwork, yet they forged his signature on the detention notice, indictment, and verdict.

Then warden Chen Jian, political secretary Li Guangwu, section chief Wang Jinwu, instructor Liu Lixue, discipline chief Jiang Zhongmin, and team captain Ma Guangli were responsible for his persecution.
