(Minghui.org) A 65-year-old woman in Mian County, Hanzhong City, Shaanxi Province was recently sentenced to seven years for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Hou Xiuying, a retired employee of the Mian County Gold Company, was arrested at home on March 1, 2024, by officers from the Jiaqi Road Police Station. They targeted her after a surveillance camera recorded her talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong. They raided her home and took her to the Mian County Detention Center. She was transferred to the Hantai District Detention Center in Hanzhong City 15 days later.

The police promised Ms. Hou’s family that they’d release her as soon as she revealed information other practitioners. She saw through the police’s deceit and refused to comply. She was later secretly sentenced by the Mian County Court at an unknown date and has been admitted to prison to serve time.

In addition to Ms. Hou, another practitioner, Ms. Du Shuhui, was sentenced to four years by the Mian County Court on January 10, 2025; Ms. Xue Lijun is also facing indictment after her case was submitted to the Mian County Procuratorate on October 23, 2024.

This is the second time that Ms. Hou has been sentenced for her faith. She was previously arrested on May 22, 2010 for talking to people about Falun Gong. She was sentenced to five years by the Lueyang County Court between September and October 2010. She was tortured and forced to work without pay while serving time at the Shaanxi Province Women’s Prison in Xi’an City. The authorities continued to harass her after she was released.
