(Minghui.org) A 68-year-old woman in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, was sent to the Liaoning Province Women’s Prison on September 16, 2025 to serve a four-year term for practicing Falun Gong. Her family was not allowed to visit her until October 10. They were shocked to see she was reduced to just skin and bones after just one month in prison.

Ms. Wang Wei

Ms. Wang Wei was arrested on July 12, 2024. She was sentenced to four years and fined 2,000 yuan on December 26, 2024. Her appeal was rejected on April 15, 2025. She submitted a motion to the Shenyang City Intermediate Court on June 5, requesting a revocation of the appeals ruling and that her case be retried, but her request was denied.

A Heartbreaking Visit

After much effort Ms. Wang Xiaochen (Ms. Wang Wei’s daughter), was finally able to visit with her mother on October 10, 2025. The younger woman arrived at the prison early but was the last visitor to be led inside. She saw a team lead and an inmate bring her mother to the meeting room. She could hardly recognize her. Her mother aged tremendously, and was emaciated and haggard. Her hands and chest were bony. Her hair turned gray and wrinkles covered her face.

Ms. Wang Wei began weeping as soon as she sat down. Her daughter asked, “How are you doing, Mom? Were you starved? Why are you so thin?”

The team lead who had been monitoring the conversation, immediately interjected, “Tell your daughter what you ate during the mid-autumn festival (October 6)! Didn’t you eat moon cakes, fish and fruit? Didn’t you also watch entertainment programs?”

With fear in her eyes, Ms. Wang Wei told her daughter not to seek justice for her again. Ms. Wang Xiaochen’s heart ached and she was sure her mother must have been threatened to say certain things during the visit, which was ended by the team lead after about 20 minutes.

According to insiders, Division 12 officials designed a comprehensive transformation plan in February 2025 aimed to force Ms. Wang Wei to renounce her faith, Falun Gong, while she was still waiting for the result of her appeals. They trained the inmates assigned to monitor her how to implement the plan.

Denied Visits In First Month

Ms. Wang Wei’s family was not notified of her prison transfer on September 16, 2025. They noted that morning that her commissary account at the local detention center had a zero balance and suspected she was sent to prison. Her daughter went to the admissions center of the Liaoning Province Second Women’s Prison that afternoon to inquire about her status. Her mother’s name was not on the list.

On the morning of September 17, 2025, Ms. Wang Xiaochen called the Liaoning Province Second Women’s Prison and was told there was still no information about her mother. She was then referred to the Liaoning Province Women’s Prison. A woman there said she could not verify Ms. Wang Xiaochen’s identity and thus was unable to address her inquiry. The woman asked Ms. Wang to wait for a notice and said her mother must be in one of the two prisons.

Around 11 a.m. on September 17, 2025, Ms. Wang received a call from team lead Meng Zhuhan from Division 12 of the Liaoning Province Women’s Prison saying that her mother formally started serving time there the day before.

Ms. Wang expressed her concern about her mother’s safety and urged Meng not to attempt to make her mother give up Falun Gong.

Meng claimed that everything they did at the prison was in compliance with the law and criticized Ms. Wang for judging the way the prison disciplined inmates.

Meng then pressed Ms. Wang to express her attitude about Falun Gong. She said she only knew that Falun Gong improved her mother’s health and character.

“So you support your mother’s practice of Falun Gong?” asked Meng.

Ms. Wang replied, “My mother was bedridden for years and became healthy after she took up Falun Gong. Why should I oppose something that’s so good?”

Meng repeated her question, “So you support her right?” She then declared that Ms. Wang was not allowed family visits that day because her “attitude” would “negatively” impact her mother’s “transformation.”

Meng even ordered Ms. Wang to write a statement promising not to mention anything related to Falun Gong if she was later allowed family visits with her mother.

Ms. Wang refused to comply and Meng said she was not allowed family visits the next day (September 18, 2025) either as it was not a visitation day.

Meng then tried to drive a wedge between Ms. Wang and her brother by promising to allow the brother family visits but not her.

Meng also warned Ms. Wang not to submit any motion or complaint to the prison again as it was “interference” to the prison.

Ms. Wang visited the Liaoning Province Women’s Prison on September 18, 2025 to submit an urgent request to ensure her mother’s safety. A woman on duty refused to accept the request on the grounds that they never received anything like that and did not know which department was supposed to handle this matter.

The woman said, “It’s enough to know your mother is here. What’s there to worry about? Who dares to torture her? Don’t they still want to keep their jobs? If you suspect your mother is being threatened here, you can file a complaint and submit evidence. You can ask your mother about how she’s doing during family visits.” She also said Ms. Wang was thinking too much.

Ms. Wang returned to the prison the next day to submit another request for family visits. She was made to wait for more than two hours before Meng and another official (in his 30s and wearing glasses) came out. The official refused to give his name. He took a look at the government document showing Ms. Wang’s relationship with her mother and said that day (September 19) was not a visitation day.

Ms. Wang again asked if the prison could ensure her mother’s safety. The official said of course but Ms. Wang worried that he and Meng may not directly abuse her mother but their subordinates or inmates may.

The official promised to allow Ms. Wang to have a phone call with her mother the following Monday (September 22). When she still received no call by Wednesday (September 24), she went to the prison again that day. A woman there said the prison’s job was to jail people and told her to file a motion to revoke her mother’s conviction.

Ms. Wang replied that a motion had already been filed and she just wanted to reiterate to the prison that her mother broke no law and should not be subjected to torture and brainwashing aimed to force her to renounce her faith.

The same official Ms. Wang saw before and a guard came out more than 20 minutes later. They said her mother was moved from team 4 to team 3, which was why there was no phone call as promised.

That day (September 24), Ms. Wang was finally able to talk to her mother on the phone. The team lead, Wang Xiyue, warned them not to mention Falun Gong.

Ms. Wang noticed that her mother’s voice was very low and it was obvious to her that her mother was being strictly monitored.

Ms. Wang Wei said, “Daughter, don’t worry about me. I’m fine.” Then she added, “My eyesight is blurry and I can’t see clearly.”

The call was ended in just a few minutes and Ms. Wang Xiaochen was asked to come visit her mother on October 10.
