(Minghui.org) A 55-year-old resident of Changsha City, Hunan Province was arrested in June 2024 for her faith in Falun Gong while visiting her parents in Xiangxiang City (also in the same province).
Ms. Deng Qinghui, a salon owner, took up Falun Gong in April 2009 and recovered from her numerous diseases, including lazy eye. She also turned from a selfish woman with low self-esteem to a kind and considerate person. Despite the ongoing persecution, she never hesitated in sharing her positive Falun Gong experience with others, including her customers.
While distributing Falun Gong materials at a farmers’ market on the afternoon of March 29, 2012, Ms. Deng was arrested and had her home raided. Several officers from the Chaoyang Police Station forced her to give her fingerprints before driving her to a hospital for physical examination. After that, they took her to a local detention center.
More than twenty inmates were instructed to take turns pouring cold water on Ms. Deng. The guards also had the inmates stuff her mouth with dirty socks and then walk her around by a leash as if she was a dog. They also wrote on her body words slandering the founder of Falun Gong. For about two weeks, she was not given much food to eat. She had really bad breath due to the torture and phlegm.
The police gave Ms. Deng one year of forced labor after about three weeks. The Baimalong Labor Camp declined to admit her after she was found to have coronary heart disease and nephritis. She was then released.
After another arrest on June 14, 2013, Ms. Deng was detained for 15 days. On September 1 of that year, a large number of police officers and community workers pounded on her door. She refused to let them in and they took turns staking outside her home. The next day, they withdrew from sight. Ms. Deng saw no officer outside and decided to go to her salon. As soon as she stepped out of the door, several plainclothes officers seized her and took her to a brainwashing center, where she was held for 25 days.
Ms. Deng’s home was raided on the early morning of April 10, 2015. She was arrested at a train station on July 27, 2016 and held at the Changsha City Lockup for 12 days. Another arrest took place at a different train station on June 17, 2018. While she was released hours later, she was taken back into custody on June 26 that year and held at a brainwashing center for about three weeks.
Following another arrest on May 13, 2021, Ms. Deng was sentenced to two years in prison. Her husband was not allowed to visit her. He was so traumatized that he was hospitalized twice during her prison term.
When Ms. Deng was released in May 2023, she was unable to stand on her own as a result of abuse in prison. Her health had not fully recovered when she was arrested again in June 2024. Her current detention location isn’t known.
