(Minghui.org) A Qishan County, Shaanxi Province, resident, was sentenced to six years and three months on January 14, 2025, for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Liu Huixia, either in her 60s or 70s, was arrested at home on May 22, 2024, by officers from the Qishan County Police Department. She was first held at the Qishan County Detention Center and transferred to the Meishan County Detention Center around July 2024. She was tried by the Qishan County Court on January 14, 2025, and convicted.
Ms. Liu, a retired employee of the Qishan County Water Conservancy Bureau, took up Falun Gong in late 1996. Her many conditions, including heart disease, chronic stomach disease, and sinusitis, soon disappeared. After the persecution started in 1999, she was repeatedly targeted for raising awareness about it.
Ms. Liu went to the countryside to distribute informational materials about Falun Gong in October 2002 and was reported. She was given one year of forced labor and forced to write thought reports and work for long hours without pay.
Ms. Liu was reported again on July 10, 2014, for talking to a young man about Falun Gong. After being held overnight at the Fengming Town Police Station, she was taken to the Mei County Detention Center the next day. The Qishan County Domestic Security Division put her on a one-year bail when releasing her two weeks later. She was also forced to pay a 3,000 yuan bail bond.
The police constantly harassed Ms. Liu in 2015 and ordered her to report to the police station. Her father in his 80s was terrified and he was hit by a motorcycle while walking on the street, resulting in rib fractures.
Ms. Liu was arrested again on May 5, 2017, by officers from the Zhangbagou Police Station in Xi’an, the capital of Shaanxi.
While attending a community fair in Zaolin Town on May 23, 2018, Ms. Liu was seized by the Zaolin Town Police Station officers. She was held at the Baoji City Detention Center for ten days and released on June 2.
