(Minghui.org) It’s been recently confirmed by Minghui.org that two Gongzhuling City, Jilin Province residents were sentenced to prison for their shared faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zheng Shuqin was arrested on August 30, 2024, after being reported by a person for talking to him about Falun Gong. The police first held her at the Gongzhuling City Lockup for 15 days and then transferred her to the Gongzhuling City Detention Center because she refused to write a statement to renounce Falun Gong.
Ms. Zheng was recently sentenced to three years, and she is in the process of appealing the verdict.
The second practitioner, Ms. Fan Chunhua, 72, was arrested at home on April 27, 2024. Her Falun Gong books and printers were confiscated. The police monitored her daily life for six months, after receiving a tip about her putting up Falun Gong posters somewhere. She was held at the Gongzhuling City Detention Center and sentenced to six months.
Ms. Fan, a retired middle school teacher, used to struggle with many ailments, including a heart condition, rheumatism, arthritis, and tracheitis, all of which disappeared after she started to practice Falun Gong in August 1995. She strove to live by Falun Gong’s principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and also mended the tense relationship with her husband.
Ms. Fan was harassed at work by local police officer Wang Yanjun in early May 2002. Wang and three others searched her office on May 24, 2002, confiscating her Falun Gong books and ID. She was taken to the Gongzhuling City Detention Center in the evening. She was forced to work without pay and verbally abused by the guards there. The food in the detention center was extremely poor and sometimes had sand in it.
After a month of detention, Ms. Fan was given one year at the Jilin Province Women’s Forced Labor Camp. She was assigned to team 5 in division 7. She wasn’t allowed to talk to other Falun Gong practitioners detained there and was watched by the inmates around the clock. The guards also forced her to sit on a small stool motionless for long hours, and her buttocks festered as a result.
Later on, Ms. Fan was forced to work from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. or even 10 p.m. every day, without pay. She worked with toxic materials, but wasn’t given any personal protective equipment. In the summer, over 50 people worked in a small room without air conditioning, yet they were only given ten minutes to wash their faces and brush their teeth every day, and showering was only allowed once every few months. Once they were allowed to take showers in the winter, but the guards didn’t provide any hot water. Ms. Fan kept shivering for a long time after the shower was done.
Ms. Fan’s persecution dealt a hard blow to her family. Her mother often cried and her husband’s health declined as a result. Her son’s school performance was affected, and he lost his appetite as well.
