A resident in Changshou District, Chongqing, died on March 25, 2021, after suffering years of persecution for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999. She was in her 70s.

Ms. Ye Jinhua, who retired from a local coal mine company, served a one-year term at the Maojiashan Women’s Labor Camp in the early years of the persecution. She was also fined 5,000 yuan.

The police raided Ms. Ye’s home on August 14, 2007, soon after their surveillance camera recorded her distributing Falun Gong informational materials outside a supermarket. They gave her two years of forced labor at the Shabao Women’s Labor Camp.

The labor camp guards held all Falun Gong practitioners, including Ms. Ye, at Team Four. They assigned drug addicts to monitor the practitioners around the clock. The inmates often beat and verbally abused the practitioners at will. They also forced the practitioners to maintain military poses for long hours from time to time.

Ms. Ye was seized by an elderly man on October 2, 2020, while distributing calendars bearing Falun Gong information at a farmers’ market. He took her to the local community office. Secretary Huang then reported her to the Fengshan Police Station.

An officer soon arrived to arrest her. She did not answer questions during the interrogation. The police seized the rest of the calendars she had in her bag and confiscated some additional Falun Gong informational materials from her home. Using her prior forced labor terms as an excuse, the police placed her under house arrest. She refused to sign the paperwork but was released in the afternoon.

The police kept harassing her at home after that. Her health quickly declined and she vomited blood. She died at home on March 25, 2021.
