Ms. Peng Junying, of Zigong City, Sichuan Province, passed away on May 18, 2021. She was 79.
Ms. Peng suffered repeated harassment in her final years. The police often took photos of her against her will and ordered her to sign statements to renounce Falun Gong.
On December 9, 2020, nine police officers and community workers broke into Ms. Peng’s home and took her to the Gongjing District Police Department for interrogation. As her 102-year-old father relied on her for care, she demanded the police to release her around noon, so she could prepare lunch for him. The police rejected her and didn’t release her until 8 p.m.
The police harassed Ms. Peng on December 14 and 31, 2020, ordering her to sign her case documents to be submitted to the procuratorate. She refused to comply.
A prosecutor from the Gongjing District Procuratorate called Ms. Peng on May 12, 2021, demanding she sign her indictment. She still rejected. Terrified by the possible prison sentence, she suddenly fell ill and died six days later.
