(Minghui.org) Only five months after a 62-year-old Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province, resident, completed a nine-month prison term for practicing Falun Gong, she was arrested again and sentenced to another three years.
The first prison sentence of Ms. Chen Shuiqing, a convenience store owner, stemmed from an earlier arrest on the evening of February 23, 2023, by over ten officers. They ordered the property management office in her neighborhood to shut down her water and broke into her home, after deceiving her into going to the property management office. She was first taken to the Haitian Police Station and then transferred to the Zhanjiang City Detention Center.
Ms. Chen stood trial at the Chikan District Court on August 18, 2023, and was sentenced to nine months. She was released in December 2023.
In early May 2024, Ms. Chen was arrested again after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. She was still held at the Zhanjiang City Detention Center. It was confirmed by Minghui.org in December 2024 that she was sentenced to three years. It’s not clear whether she has been transferred to prison following her latest conviction.
Ms. Chen took up Falun Gong in March 1999. Many of her ailments soon disappeared and she also changed from a hot-tempered person to someone who is kind and understanding.
After the Chinese communist regime ordered the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, Ms. Chen was repeatedly targeted for upholding her faith.
She was arrested in 2001, detained for a day, and extorted 300 yuan.
A group of officers broke into Ms. Chen’s store on March 23, 2005, and searched the place without producing proper documents. They first held her at a detention center for over 50 days and then transferred her to the Zhanjiang City Brainwashing Center for another three months. As she remained firm in Falun Gong, the authorities gave her a one-year term at the Sanshui Forced Labor Camp, where she was brutally tortured.
Ms. Chen was arrested again in late 2006, shortly after her release. She was held at the Zhanjiang City Brainwashing Center and Guangdong Province Brainwashing Center for two and five months, respectively.
Ms. Chen’s next arrest was on May 16, 2012, for distributing Falun Gong materials. The arresting officers included Huang Zuhua of the Zhanjiang 610 Office and more than ten officers of the Zhanjiang City Domestic Security Division. She was kept at a brainwashing center for over two months.
The same officers arrested Ms. Chen another time on March 4, 2015, and took her to the Xiashan Brainwashing Center. She was released on July 27, 2015.
Ms. Chen was harassed several times in 2019. One of the incidents was in her store in March 2019, by Li Yasheng, the director of the Potou District Domestic Security Division, and Zhan Dezhao, the chief of Guandu Police Station.
