(Minghui.org) A resident of Lanxi County, Heilongjiang Province, was sentenced to three years and fined 10,000 yuan on April 2, 2024, for his faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.

Mr. Liu Min’s sentencing stemmed from his initial arrest at 8 p.m. on December 5, 2022, after being reported for distributing Falun Gong informational materials in nearby Pingshan Town earlier that night. The arresting officers from the Pingshan Town Police Station notified the Lanxi County Police Department, which dispatched deputy captain Li Yuchen to pick him up.

While Mr. Liu was released on bail at 3 p.m. the following day, he was taken back into custody about a year later. He was home at around 9 a.m. on November 13, 2023, when Lanxi County Police Department officers broke in and seized him. A witness reported seeing five or six plainclothes officers, one of them a woman, descend on Mr. Liu’s apartment building in two private cars that day. They took Mr. Liu away but brought him back at around 2 p.m. to raid his home. They confiscated his Falun Gong books and took him to the Lanxi County Lockup.

Fifteen days later, the police transferred Mr. Liu to the Lanxi County Detention Center, where he is likely still being held. His family has not been allowed to visit him since his arrest. His 88-year-old mother was once told she was too old to see her son in custody.

Domestic Security Division Captain Liu Xiaobo (+86-13904558767) fabricated evidence against Mr. Liu and submitted his case to the Lanxi County Procuratorate, which returned the case and declined to issue a formal arrest warrant for him. Liu then worked hand in glove with Qin Zhongwei (+86-13836408899), deputy police chief and head of the 610 Office, and submitted the case to the Anda City Procuratorate.

Both Lanxi County and Anda City are under the administration of Suihua City. The Anda City Procuratorate issued a formal arrest warrant for Mr. Liu and indicted him at an unknown date.

The Anda City Court appointed a lawyer to represent Mr. Liu. The lawyer notified his family that his court date was set for April 2, 2024.

Mr. Liu’s family arrived at the courthouse on April 2, but no one there. They called the lawyer and were told that the hearing was actually being held at the Lanxi County Detention Center. They rushed there but were not allowed in. The lawyer came out to say that the Anda City Court had just heard Mr. Liu’s case and sentenced him to three years with 10,000-yuan fine.

The court-appointed lawyer said that a printer confiscated from Mr. Liu’s home was used as evidence against him, but Mr. Liu never owned a printer. Barred from attending the hearing, his loved ones were not sure whether a hearing was indeed held as the lawyer claimed.

The lawyer advised them to get some clothes ready as they might finally be allowed to see Mr. Liu once they received a formal copy of his verdict.
