(Minghui.org) A Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province, resident was sentenced to 3.5 years in late March 2024 for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Xiao Kun and her sister Ms. Xiao Yang were arrested outside of her apartment building around 5 p.m. on August 23, 2023. The arresting officers included Shi Wei, Yang Ziheng and six others from the Acheng District Domestic Security Division. Ms. Xiao Kun’s laptop, printer and six cellphones were confiscated.

The Xiao sisters were interrogated at the Acheng District Police Department until midnight. While Ms. Xiao Yang was released that night, Ms. Xiao Kun was transferred to the Harbin City Second Detention Center and her arrest was approved shortly afterward.

The Acheng District Court heard Ms. Xiao Kun’s case on February 28, 2024. A month later, the judge sentenced her to 3.5 years and fined her 10,000 yuan. She is appealing the verdict.

This isn’t the first time that the sisters were targeted for practicing Falun Gong. They were arrested on December 31, 2011 by officers from the Xiangfang District Domestic Security Office and the Heping Police Station. They were each sentenced to seven years by the Xiangfang District Court on May 18, 2012. They were transferred to the Heilongjiang Province Women’s Prison on September 19, 2012 and released on December 30, 2018.
