(Minghui.org) Two residents of Nanchong City, Sichuan Province were admitted to the Sichuan Province Women’s Prison on March 27, 2024 for their faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.

Ms. Liu Junhua, an 80-year-old retired physician from the hospital affiliated with Southwest Petroleum University in Nanchong City, and Ms. Gao Zhijun, a 54-year-old auto repair shop worker, are serving two and three years respectively. Their cases were unrelated, but they were convicted by the same court in 2023.

Ms. Liu Transferred to Prison After Losing Appeal Against 2-Year Sentence

Ms. Liu was sentenced to two years by the Shunqing District Court on March 17, 2023. She, who had been out on bail, was taken back into custody immediately after her sentencing and held at the Nanchong City Detention Center.

After Ms. Liu’s appeal was rejected by the Nanchong City Intermediate Court in January 2024, the detention center transferred her to Division Three of the Sichuan Province Women’s Prison on March 25 without notifying her family.

Her loved ones did not find out about her prison transfer until April 2024, when they went to the detention center to deliver clothes to her, only to find that she was no longer there. Her husband, Mr. Luo Xuguang, a retired professor at Southwest Petroleum University, was anguished. He is in the process of filing a motion to reconsider her case.

Ms. Gao in Prison Hospital for Liver Disease

Ms. Gao was arrested on September 21, 2022 and sentenced to three years on November 14, 2023, by the same Shunqing District Court. She also appealed her verdict, but it was unclear whether she received a result before her transfer from the Nanchong City Detention Center to the Sichuan Province Women’s Prison.

Ms. Gao was initially admitted to Division Four, but is now held in the prison hospital. Her family was told that she was receiving treatment for liver disease.

This is not the first time that Ms. Gao has been jailed for her faith. She previously served two prison terms totaling six and a half years.
