(Minghui.org) A 63-year-old resident of Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, was sentenced to two years and ten months for practicing Falun Gong a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. Yang Jie, a former employee of the Zhejiang Province Medicine and Health Products Import and Export Company, suddenly disappeared in November 2023. The police car that was parked outside her apartment building every day for three years was also gone. Her family later learned that she was arrested again for her faith. The Yuquan Police Station and the Xihu District Domestic Security Division were involved in her three-year surveillance prior to her arrest.
The Xihu District Procuratorate indicted Ms. Yang at an unknown time and she stood trial at the Xihu District Court on August 9, 2024. It’s not clear when she was sentenced. She is currently appealing her wrongful conviction.
Prior to her latest sentencing, Ms. Yang spent a total of 16 years behind bars for her faith, serving a two-year labor camp term (June 2001 – June 2003), a six-year prison term (April 2005 – April 2011), a five-year prison term (November 2012 – November 2017), and a two-year-eight-month prison term (July 2018 – March 2021).
Her mother, Ms. Tang Kai, also a Falun Gong practitioner, died from the persecution in 2012. For details of the mother and daughter’s suffering, see the related reports below.
