Additional Persecution News from China – May 31, 2023 (16 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today’s news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 14 cities or counties in 9 provinces, where at least 24 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province] Zhao Huanzhen and Jin Chaohong Placed Under Official Arrest

Seven practitioners including Mr. Zhang Dehai, 82, his wife Ms. Zhu Fengchun, 79, Ms. Deng, Ms. Mu, Zhao Huanzhen, and Jin Chaohong, were reading Zhuan Falun (Falun Gong’s main text) when a large group of police officers in the Shanhaiguan District came to the home of Mr. Zhang and Ms. Zhu at 9 a.m. on May 10, 2023. The police videotaped the practitioners before taking four of them, including Ms. Deng, Ms. Mu, Zhao Huanzhen, and Jin Chaohong, to the police stations. Five of the seven practitioners are in their 70s.

The police ransacked the homes of seven practitioners. They confiscated their Falun Gong books, the photos of Falun Gong’s founder, computers, cell phones, and printers. Ms. Deng and Ms. Mu were released later that day. Zhao Huanzhen and Jin Chaohong were detained for 15 days. They were placed under official arrest and are now detained in the Qinhuangdao City Detention Center.

2. [Jimo City, Shandong Province] Mr. Feng Liguo Detained

Mr. Feng Liguo was arrested and sentenced to prison at the end of 2022. He is currently detained in the Jinan Prison.

3. [Kunming City, Yunnan Province] Ms. Gu Xingxiu Sentenced to Two Years in Prison

Ms. Gu Xingxiu, 72, was tried online in April 2023. She was sentenced to two years and fined 5000 yuan by the Xishan District Court.

4. [Beijing] Mr. Jia Hongqi and His Wife Ms. Wang Cunhuan Detained

Mr. Jia Hongqi, 77, and Ms. Wang Cunhuan, 74, have been held in the Chaoyang District Detention Center since February 2023.

5. [Jilin City, Jilin Province] Ms. Tian Xiufen Sentenced to Prison

Ms. Tian Xiufen, 76, was arrested in 2021. It was recently learned that she was sentenced to eighteen months in prison. Ms. Tian is deaf, and she is still at home. It is possible that the term will be executed at home.

6. [Linqing City, Shandong Province] Ms. Chi Yujuan Detained

Ms. Chi Yujuan was detained in Huamei Hostel (which is no longer a hotel), on May 26, 2023, and was subjected to brainwashing.

7. [Beijing] Ms. Gong Ruiping Beaten Severely

Ms. Gong Ruiping was arrested and sent to the Shunyi Detention Center on July 20, 2021. She started a hunger strike. One month later, a male guard came and grabbed her neck to take her away. She was sent back one hour later. When she took off her clothes to take a shower, the inmates noticed her entire body was covered in bruises.

8. [Beijing] Ms. Cao Xiaomin and Ms. Zhao Chunlian Arrested and Detained

Ms. Cao Xiaomin from Henanzhai Town of Mishan District was arrested along with another practitioner. Their homes were ransacked. Ms. Cao is currently held in the Mishan District Detention Center.

Ms. Zhao Chunlian from Jugezhuang Township was arrested by officers from the Jugezhuang Township Police Station in October 2022 for distributing information about Falun Gong in a market. Her home was ransacked. She was released on bail pending trial due to her poor health. Her case was submitted to the Miyun District Procuratorate. Ms. Zhao was summoned to the procuratorate on February 10, 2023, and was arrested. She has been held in the Miyun District Detention Center for over three months.

9. [Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province] Mr. Yang Jizhou and His Wife Ms. Wang Zhanfang Arrested

Mr. Yang Jizhou and his wife Ms. Wang Zhanfang from Jinlin District were arrested by officers from the Fendou Police Station on May 26, 2023. Their home as well as their son’s home were ransacked.

10. [Leiyang City, Hunan Province] Ms. Zhang Yingrong and Ms. Long Nengying Arrested and Detained

Ms. Zhang Yingrong and Ms. Long Nengying were arrested by officers from the Baisha Town Police Station on April 8, 2023, for talking to people about Falun Gong. They were detained for 15 days. Ms. Zhang Yingrong was transferred to Hengyang City on April 20, 2023. Ms. Long Nengying was released on April 23, 2023.

11. [Guan County, Shandong Province] Mr. Zhao Zhanghe Harassed

Officers from the Chongwen Police Station, led by village official Xu Hui, went to Mr. Zhao Zhanghe’s home at noon on May 12, 2023. They searched his home and confiscated a Falun Gong book and some weekly magazines.

12. [Taigu County, Shanxi Province] Ms. Han Bian’ai Harassed

Before the Chinese New Year in 2023, Ms. Han Bian’ai from Hu Village was harassed at home twice. The first time, twelve officers from the Hucun Police Station went to Ms. Han’s home and stayed from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. They forced Ms. Han to hand over anything related to Falun Gong. The second time, the two officers told Ms. Han’s son to take her to the police station to retrieve the confiscated items. However, after they arrived, Ms. Han was not allowed to leave. She was taken to the Taigu Police Department and had blood and urine tests. She was released around 9 p.m.

13. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Sun Tairong Sentenced to Prison

Ms. Sun Tairong was sentenced to one year and ten months. She was taken to the Harbin Women’s Prison on May 15, 2023.

14. [Wenling City, Zhejiang Province] Ms. Bao Lingling Released

Three practitioners including Ms. Bao Lingling in her 80s, were arrested on November 30, 2021. Ms. Bao was sentenced to eighteen months in prison. She was released on May 29, 2023.

15. [Jining City, Shandong Province] Ms. Zhang Arrested and Detained

Ms. Zhang, 64, from Zoucheng City, was arrested on March 6, 2023. Her home was ransacked. She was fined 50,000 yuan and was detained for 13 days.

16. [Ankang City, Shaanxi Province] Ms. Luo Changyun Faces Trial

Ms. Luo Changyun, 69, from the Hanbin District, is an excellent teacher. She was arrested by officers in the Hanbin District on May 30, 2022, and was detained. She will be tried on June 2, 2023.
