My Understanding of What Is Genuine Cultivation and What Is a True Dafa Disciple

(Minghui.org) I believe that a true Falun Dafa disciple must follow the teachings of Master Li (the founder of Falun Dafa) unconditionally. We must know that Master’s Law Body is omnipotent and always by our side. This is the prerequisite for genuinely cultivating Dafa as well as for becoming more enlightened through studying the teachings.

By realizing that Dafa, the Great Law, is the Heavenly Law that created the universe, and being cognizant of what is gained by conforming to Dafa and lost by deviating from Dafa, a person will be motivated to study the teachings more, do the exercises more, be utterly sincere, and follow Master’s teachings unconditionally. That is how one becomes a true Dafa disciple—a future Buddha, Tao, or God.

Genuinely Cultivating

I used to doubt if “studying the teachings more” was really effective, because I had seen the kind of practitioners who carried Zhuan Falun, the main teaching of Falun Dafa, with them everywhere and had read it many times but actually did not fully understand what Dafa cultivation was and why Dafa disciples must do the three things well. Some of them even made occasional comments that were disrespectful of Master.

What was the use of studying the teachings more for this kind of practitioner? I used to wonder why Master’s Law Body or the Buddhas, Taos, and Gods behind the words in Zhuan Falun did not give those practitioners hints to help them elevate their xinxing and gain enlightenment. 

Now I understand that these practitioners most likely study the teachings by analyzing and criticizing the content, so, no matter how many times they read the teachings, they cannot gain full enlightenment.

But it is possible that this kind of practitioner will become more solid in his or her cultivation, because during the Fa-rectification, Master has cleared away all the factors that interfere with sentient beings’ obtaining enlightenment in Dafa at high levels and in the microcosm. Only then can they genuinely understand what Dafa truly is as they begin to assimilate to Dafa.

We should do our best to help these practitioners by studying the teachings with them, clarifying their confusions about the principles of the Great Law, and sharing our personal understandings. However, if the factors that hinder them from obtaining enlightenment in Dafa are not cleared away, their main consciousnesses might still be unable to reach fruition in cultivation.
