(Minghui.org) A Xi’an City, Shaanxi Province resident is facing prosecution for his faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Miao Zhongjun’s recent arrest and detention dealt his mother, 85, and bedridden father, 96, a heavy blow. Both of them had been relying on him for care for the past many years.
Mr. Miao, 65, was followed by the police in May 2022 while returning to his parents’ home, where he had been staying to take care of them. The police arrested him on May 10 and confiscated his personal belongings. At the Gongyuanbeilu Police Station, the police handcuffed and beat him.
When the police released Mr. Miao on bail on May 13, they told his parents that the conditions of release would be valid for a year, after which they would be lifted if he didn’t commit any crime during the time.
Two months later, on July 25, the police deceived Mr. Miao into stepping outside of his parents’ apartment building and arrested him, hours after the Xincheng District Procuratorate approved his arrest warrant. Only then did Mr. Miao realize that the police had been seeking prosecution of him.
Mr. Miao is currently held at the Xincheng District Detention Center. The authorities denied him family visitation, citing the pandemic as an excuse.
