(Minghui.org) Shan Huang was born in Beijing and now resides in Toronto, Canada. She was the only child in her family, and was a typical city girl growing up in a material-rich environment. The Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) indoctrination caused her to become lost in the illusions of an immoral society. What stirred her to come back to Falun Dafa? How have her life and perspectives changed? Let’s listen to her story.

Shan Huang and her husband

Knowing that Falun Dafa Is Good Since Childhood

Shan Huang recalls being six years old when her mother became very ill. “My mother had a serious problem with her blood. I remember that she was sent to the hospital all of a sudden. She lay in the hospital bed. From my understanding, the doctor told me that I couldn’t touch my mom as otherwise she would bleed without stopping.”

Shan Huang didn’t dare touch her mom when she went to see her in the hospital. “I felt really sad in my heart. Though I was little and didn’t know what was wrong with my mom, I could feel that she was leaving me slowly. I couldn’t even get her to simply hug me.”

Her mom was discharged from the hospital soon though. Her health became better and better. “Soon after that she took me to a park after she finished work every day. Many aunties, uncles, grandpas and grandmas were there. There were many little friends as well. I played with them. Sometimes I listened when the older people read the book (Zhuan Falun), or I fell asleep beside my mom.”

Shan later learned that they were going to the park because her mom had started practicing Falun Dafa. Through practicing the exercises and studying the Fa with other people, her mother’s health became better daily. She no longer needed hospital treatments after she started practicing Falun Dafa.

Shan was still very young at that time. “But I knew that Falun Dafa is good because it saved my mom’s life and gave her good health,” she said.

Suddenly, one day there was a lot of news on TV about Falun Dafa. “I was in elementary school. I couldn’t recognize all of the Chinese characters then. I saw a burned man sitting on the ground. The CCP news said that he was a Falun Dafa practitioner. I knew it was fake. I had never seen any uncle or auntie like that burned man.”

Leaving Dafa and Becoming Lost in the Material World

As she grew up, Shan gradually drifted away from Falun Dafa, due to the CCP’s persecution and the harsh cultivation environment. “I didn’t oppose my mom cultivating or clarifying the truth to people, but I became lost in worldly things.”

“My parents worked in big companies in Beijing. They were at the managerial level. They were very good to me. I was the only child. Growing up in such an environment, I didn’t lack for any material things. However I didn’t know what to do and how to earn a foothold in society by myself. The CCP indoctrinates the people through media propaganda and censorship of the internet. People in that society become selfish, struggle with each other, are not trustworthy, have improper relationships, and engage in other deviated societal trends. I sought material enjoyment and was self-centered before I started cultivation in Falun Dafa.”

Shan’s parents were not severe or unreasonable with her. “At that time, I often quarreled with my parents, even over trivial things,” she recalled. “One quarrel I can still remember was that I argued with my dad over which major I should study at university. I liked design while my father asked me to choose finance. He didn’t listen to me. We had a fight. In the end I didn’t want to quarrel with them and didn’t talk to them. I didn’t communicate with them about anything after that. They felt sad. But things turned around during my last year at university.”

Returning to Dafa and Walking the Righteous Path

“While I was at university, I was totally lost in this chaotic world. I constantly quarreled with my parents. I had fear in my mind. I was afraid that I couldn’t do things well or that other people would scold me. I didn’t know what on earth I was afraid of. I felt pressure on me. I worried. I didn’t know what to do,” Shan said.

She felt suppressed by all kinds of things. She felt sad. Her health worsened. She had many serious symptoms. “I had seizures at night. On one occasion I was sent to the emergency room and then sent home. I was in first year at university. I was not able to lift anything heavy. I constantly had headaches and had no strength. My dad took me to have an EEG, which showed that my brain was moderately irregular. I even had the symptoms of epilepsy. I started to take medication.

“I couldn’t put up with my deteriorating health. I thought of my mom who became healthy after she practiced Falun Dafa. Should I give it a try? But I started to practice Falun Dafa with strong suspicion. Our generation absolutely doesn’t believe in gods or buddhas or cultivation. But I wanted to give it a try for the sake of my health. I started to practice the exercises with my mom. That was in 2013, my final year at university.”

Shan only had seizures on Friday nights or weekend nights after she started practicing Falun Dafa. So the next day she could have a rest. After the seizures, she used to have to rest for several days and would have a bad headache for a long time. But she found she now recovered after having some sleep, and her headaches became minor. Later on, she didn’t feel anything after she slept and could go to work the next day.

“I have regained my strength. I can easily carry a bucket of water or a bag of rice. I walk briskly. I have personally experienced the miracles of Dafa. It is extraordinary,” she said. “As I cultivate more, in addition to the physical changes, I have experienced even bigger changes mentally.”

Returning to Tradition and Family

“I met my husband soon after I started practicing Falun Dafa. I was still at university at the time,” Shan said. “I came to know him while I was an intern at a company. I found a righteous path after I had studied the Fa deeply.

“I chose a boyfriend according to the traditional values that my mom taught me. I paid a lot of attention to his personal qualities. When we were dating, I didn’t cross any baseline like what modern thought promotes. It is affirmed that when I rectify my thoughts and behave according to the traditional values, my marriage is harmonious and perfect.”

Shan and her husband came to Toronto soon after they got married in 2016. “It was hard for us at the start, in a foreign country. Both of us had never left our families or Beijing before. I just followed the principles of being considerate and returning to tradition that I have learned from Falun Dafa while I was with my husband.”

She tried to act like a traditional lady would. “When we had to make big decisions that would impact our future, I would let my husband decide. I got along with him by trusting, understanding and sacrificing without seeking returns. So he acknowledges and supports Falun Dafa.”

Shan’s parents came to Toronto soon after Shan came. The way she treats her parents has changed a lot since she started to practice Falun Dafa. “I was selfish with my parents before. But after I practiced Falun Dafa, I've learned how to be considerate. I now think from my parents’ perspectives and understand their thoughts. So our family has become harmonious,” she said.

After Shan rectified herself on this righteous path, she has found that she has gone through many big changes for the better. Her life in society has become smoother. She was hired by a big finance company in Canada not long ago. Her competence has been acknowledged there. Her family is very happy for her.
