(Minghui.org) Wei Yu was a calligrapher in the late Qing Dynasty. He also was accomplished musically and was good at martial arts. In 1908, he studied to take an imperial exam. A fortuneteller named Guang Wen told him not to bother taking the exam because he wouldn’t pass. Guang also advised him to be careful because he saw a fatal accident in his future.
Wei took the exam anyway and did indeed fail it. Defeated and frustrated, he took to drinking to kill time and behaved recklessly. An old woman named Qi could not tolerate his behavior and often complained about him. That made Wei very angry.
One night, Wei got some gunpowder and went to where Qi lived, planning to burn her house down. But when he saw the wooden houses of the poor families in the neighborhood, Wei changed his mind. He thought, “That old woman is indeed annoying, but her neighbors are innocent. How could I hurt them like that?”
Three years later, Wei made plans to take the imperial exam again. Guang, the fortuneteller, looked at him again and was surprised. “Things have changed,” he said. “I no longer see a fatal accident in your future and this time you will pass the imperial exam. What have you done?”
Wei told him how he had decided against burning the old woman’s house down. Guang said, “That single thought saved many lives—that is how your fate was changed.”
That year, Wei passed the imperial exam and, in time, accomplished great things. Just like the saying in traditional Chinese culture: “When a person is kind, blessings follow.”
Supporting the Righteous
Similar things are happening in today’s China. When tens of millions of Falun Gong practitioners are wrongly persecuted for their belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, anything that people say or do to support innocent practitioners can bring blessings.
Gu’an is a small village in Yishui County, Shandong Province. Liu Hongda, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) secretary of Longjiajuan Township, once directed dozens of police officers, government officials, and local staff members to harass practitioners in Gu’an. After blocking all the exits from the village, they went to practitioners’ homes. Even if the practitioner was not at home, they would break in and ransack the place.
Terrified by the large number of police officers and local officials, most of the villagers dared not get involved. One man, Li Ming, felt bad that innocent practitioners were being bullied like that. Seeing his sister-in-law raiding homes along with other officials, he yelled at her, “It’s none of your business! Stop messing around with them!” Some of the officials came over to take him away, but other villagers stopped them.
His kindness was soon rewarded. He was riding a tricycle in nearby Xizhongyu Village when a truck hit him and he lost consciousness. After being treated in a local medical facility for 10 days, he fully recovered and returned home. “Thanks to the divine for protecting me. If not, I would have died for sure,” he said.
A Police Officer in Shock
Here is a story from Kunming City, Yunnan Province. Several police officers arrested a practitioner named Gang. On their way to the police station, officer Wei suddenly felt his heart seize up. His face turned pale, his limbs were cold, and he was sweating all over—typical symptoms of shock.
Gang encouraged him to recite, “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.” Wei was hesitant at first, but his coworkers agreed he should try it, so Wei recited the phrases again and again. In a few minutes, he was fine, as if nothing had ever been wrong with him.
This impressed all the police officers in the van. Before they got to the police department, they stopped the van and released the practitioner. As he got out, Gang asked them to treat practitioners kindly, reminding them that they would receive more blessings consequently.
A Union President
While I was waiting for a bus in 2014, I met a union president who worked at a state-owned enterprise. I told her how the CCP suppressed innocent people, including Falun Gong practitioners, with brutality and lies.
“What you say is true,” she said. “I know of many instances where the Party has deceived officials and ordinary citizens with lies. I want to quit the Party.”
She said she had a problem with urinary urgency and often had to get off the bus twice in one trip to find a toilet. That was why she often sat in the front of the bus.
She also asked, “Why don’t you [practitioners] ever give up [your belief in Falun Gong]?”
I told her about Falun Gong and the physical and spiritual benefits I had gained from the practice. She was impressed and asked me to tell her more, so I explained how practitioners applied the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance in their daily lives. I also recited Hong Yin, a collection of poems by Master Li, the founder of Falun Gong.
“I’ve never heard something that good!” she exclaimed. “They are great!”
At her stop, she said realized she hadn’t needed to get off the bus halfway like she usually did to find a toilet. “You know, that has bothered me for over 10 years. It’s inconvenient and embarrassing,” she said.
I said it was because of Falun Gong and she nodded. “Falun Gong is truly great! No wonder practitioners will practice it no matter what," she said. "I will be a practitioner, too!”
