(Minghui.org) One month after Ms. Jia Ruiling was transferred to a prison to serve a four-year term for practicing Falun Gong, she became incontinent and her family was ordered to deliver diapers to her. Prior to her imprisonment, Ms. Jia was held at a detention center for over three years.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Jia, a Xi’an City, Shaanxi Province resident, was arrested on April 4, 2019, after a surveillance camera recorded her distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. The police monitored her phone calls before arresting her. She was held at the Xi’an City Detention Center.
Shortly after Ms. Jia’s arrest was approved on May 12, 2019, the police submitted her case to the Yanta District Court. Prosecutor Cheng Li indicted her.
Ms. Jia appeared in the Yanta District Court on November 18, 2020. Her family learned in September 2021 that the judge had sentenced her to four years. The authorities kept her at the detention center for another nine months before taking her to the Shaanxi Province Women’s Prison in June 2022.
Ms. Jia’s daughter received a call from the prison in mid-July and was told that her mother had become incontinent. The younger woman was ordered to deliver diapers to her mother.
Ms. Jia’s family has been denied visitation rights since her arrest and they were also kept in the dark concerning her case status. They suspect that she might have been tortured in custody, causing her to become incontinent.
