(Minghui.org) Ms. Ma Yinhuan has been on hunger strike for more than one month in protest of the arbitrary arrest and detention for her faith in Falun Gong. She was force fed and is in serious condition.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Ma, of Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province, was arrested on May 9, 2022. Another practitioner, Ms. Kou Lirong, was arrested with her.

Ms. Ma was put on criminal detention the next day and transferred to the Shijiazhuang No. 2 Detention Center three weeks later.

While interrogating Ms. Ma at the Huanghedadao Police Station, the police claimed that they arrested her after she was recorded by a surveillance camera putting up banners about Falun Gong. She started a hunger strike shortly after and is still continuing it at the time of writing.

In retaliation, the police refused to provide any daily necessities to Ms. Ma, including toilet paper. They also force fed her.

Ms. Kou also held a hunger strike to protest the persecution. She has been released on June 9, but Ms. Ma remains in custody.

Ms. Ma’s family hired a lawyer to visit her, but the detention center used all kinds of excuses to deny the visits. They claimed that they had communicated Ms. Ma’s situation to the police. But when the lawyer contacted the police, they responded that they never received such information.

Ms. Ma’s family applied for bail release of her, only to be given the run-around between the detention center and the police station. The police recently submitted her case to the Gaoxin District Procuratorate, which is in the process of approving her arrest in preparation for further prosecution.
