(Minghui.org) Ms. Liu Yunling, a Yiyang City, Hunan Province, resident, was arrested in May 2021 while on her way to a grocery store near her home. She was detained incommunicado and later secretly sentenced for practicing Falun Gong. It has been confirmed by Minghui.org that Ms. Liu was taken to the Hunan Province Women’s Prison, but other details about her sentencing aren’t yet clear.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. According to information collected by Minghui.org, at least 29 Falun Gong practitioners in Hunan were sentenced in 2021. Another 181 were arrested and 309 were harassed by the authorities. Two died as a result of the persecution.
Before taking up Falun Gong in November 1996, Ms. Liu suffered many ailments, including a kidney condition and rhinitis. She was in her 30s at the time, but her energy level was very low and she felt much older than her age. After learning Falun Gong, all of her ailments disappeared in a few months. Her body became very light and she was full of energy. Now 65, she feels like someone in her 40s. In addition to her health improvement, Ms. Liu’s bad temper was also gone and she became more peaceful and considerate.
In November 1999, four months after the persecution started, Ms. Liu went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong. She was stopped by the police on the street in Beijing and ordered to vilify Falun Gong. As she refused to do so, the police arrested her and took her to the Haidian District Detention Center. There, she saw the police beating five practitioners, stripping them of their clothes and forcing them to stand overnight. A few days later, she was transferred to another detention center, where she was held for 1.5 months before being taken to a brainwashing center.
Ms. Liu was arrested again on November 15, 2005 while at work and taken to the Yiyang City Brainwashing Center. The guards forced her to watch videos slandering Falun Gong and ordered her to write statements to renounce Falun Gong.
At 6 a.m. on May 15, 2014, before Ms. Liu had gotten up, a group of officers broke into her home and confiscated her two computers, two printers, three cellphones and over 1,000 yuan in cash. After eight months of detention, she was sentenced to three years with one year of probation.
