(Minghui.org) A Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province resident was sentenced to six years for his faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Li Qiaosong, 53, was recorded by surveillance cameras distributing Falun Gong informational materials in a residential area in March 2000. Officers from the Tianhe District Domestic Security Office and Tangxia Police Station arrested him at home on April 24, 2020, and held him at the Tianhe District Detention Center.
The Tianhe District Procuratorate approved Mr. Li’s arrest on May 29 and forwarded his case to the Haizhu District Procuratorate on August 11. The procuratorate was designated to handle most of the Falun Gong cases in the region. He was indicted in October 2020 and sentenced to six years with a 20,000 yuan fine by the Haizhu District Court a year later. He appealed the verdict, but the Guangzhou City Intermediate Court ruled to uphold his original sentence on December 23.
Mr. Li took up Falun Gong in 1996 at the age of 27. Since the communist regime ordered the persecution in 1999, he has spent 15 years of the prime time of his life in labor camps, brainwashing centers, and prisons. Despite the suffering, he said he has no regret and will continue to practice Falun Gong and uphold the truth.
