(Minghui.org) A shocking report announced the “Tiananmen Square Self-immolation” during the evening news on January 23, 2001. My family and I all saw it. Most people in China did, since everyone sees the same propaganda across the country.

When I saw the footage of the participants being bandaged, I immediately understood that the entire thing had been staged. How did I know? Because I’ve cared for and seen people with severe burns.

Two Cases of Severe Burns

In the summer of 1968, most of China was paralyzed due to large-scale fighting between factions. The nights were dark due to power outages.

One evening, a 23-year-old female worker in my work unit brought her two roommates to the measurement room to get kerosene for a lamp. Because it was so dark, they mistakenly poured gasoline instead.

As soon as one of them lit a match, the gasoline ignited and a fire broke out. Of the three people—the one nearest the door fled in a panic; the other two were rescued and sustained moderate and severe burns.

The severely burned person was nineteen years old at the time, and she worked in the same workshop as me.

Because of the widespread power outage, the hospital had no electricity. The workshop director selected three girls her age and two senior workers to care for her in the hospital 24 hours a day. I was one of them.

The condition of the hospital was poor. There were ten beds in a large ward. The so-called treatment was just an intravenous infusion. The three of us girls were tasked with dabbing gentian violet solution on her burns. The patient was in a coma and lay on the bed naked. We covered her private parts with a piece of cloth.

The three of us changed shifts every eight hours. The most severely burned parts were her face, arms and hands. We kept using cotton swabs dipped in gentian violet solution and dabbed the burned parts gently to prevent infection. Under our attentive care, despite such a rudimentary medical environment, she passed the dangerous period and survived by luck.

She is now seventy-three years old. Although her face, arms, and hands are scarred, she is still alive and has children and grandchildren.

Eighteen years later, in the summer of 1986, two employees of the security section of my factory were cleaning weapons with gasoline in the office.

The chief of the infrastructure section sat next to them smoking a cigarette and accidentally dropped the cigarette butt into the gasoline pan.

In an instant, the gasoline in the pan ignited. One of them picked up the tray and threw it out the door. At this moment, the wife of one of the two employees came to see him. All the burning gasoline was poured onto the young woman. The couple had only been married for six months and she was pregnant.

According to eyewitnesses, it was really appalling. She collapsed and rolled on the ground. Others used fire extinguishers to put out the fire. Because her clothing was made of synthetic fiber, when it burned it stuck to her body. She was seriously injured.

Two days later, I went to the hospital with a few colleagues to visit her. In a small closed room we saw through the window: a burned, naked and unconscious patient lying on a bed, with a glass cover over her body. It was said to keep her body dry, and sterile. The medical conditions had greatly improved from what it was eighteen years before. We looked forward to her recovery. Unfortunately she passed away.

The above two real-life cases prevented me from being deceived by the Tiananmen self-immolation hoax. The people that the Party showed on TV were just actors. They had not in fact set themselves on fire as officials had alleged.

I am able to use my personal experience to clarify the truth and expose the CCP’s lies.

Shedding Light on the Party's Lies

On the evening of January 23, 2001, my whole family watched TV. When I saw the footage of the bandaged participants, I immediately understood that this was fabricated to deceive people.

I warned my family: “This is fake. Look at these ‘self-immolators’ wrapped in bandages. When people are burned, their injuries are blistered and runny. The bandages stick to the skin. The skin is torn off when the bandage is removed. Don’t believe this report.” My family did not argue with me, instead they agreed that it’s basic common sense that large-area deep burns should not be bandaged.

Pervasive Propaganda

Seventeen years ago, when I was incarcerated in the provincial women’s forced labor camp, brainwashing sessions were held. One of the so-called helpers used the Tiananmen self-immolation hoax to slander Falun Dafa.

I asked her, “The TV reported that the ‘self-immolation’ persons were from Kaifeng, Henan. When the woman who supposedly drank half a bottle of gasoline was interviewed, why did she speak the standard Beijing dialect? She is from Beijing.” The helper was stunned and reported my comment to the captain of the prison guards. She later told me, “The captain said that no one raised this issue before.” Afterwards, no one mentioned the self-immolation hoax.

I recently watched the truth-clarification video about the self-immolation hoax again. I noticed that the participant Wang Jindong sat on the ground despite being “severely burned.” His hair was not burned off and his Sprite plastic bottle was not deformed. He shouted out slogans that had nothing to do with Falun Dafa.

It seems that the director of the hoax knew nothing about Falun Dafa. Wang spoke standard Mandarin with a Northeast accent. I grew up in Henan Province, but I could not hear even a little local accent when he spoke. Is he really from Henan?

I recalled that comedian Li Wenhua insisted on performing after undergoing a laryngectomy many years ago. He struggled so hard to speak, and his voice was faint and hoarse. I felt sorry for him.

It is even more distressing to think of Liu Siying, the little girl portrayed in the self-immolation hoax. It is impossible that Siying could still sing and answer the CCTV reporter’s questions with a clear and pleasant voice after the tracheotomy operation. Moreover, the child who was said to have recovered then died unexpectedly before being discharged from the hospital. How did this happen?

Over the past 20 years, many people, especially those born since 1980, have been misled by the Tiananmen self-immolation hoax. In early 2000, my grandson went to school, and his textbooks covered the self-immolation hoax. I asked him to tear out the pages containing these lies and he agreed. After more than 20 years, many people are still misled by the CCP lies and refuse to listen to the truth.

When I took a walk about ten years ago, I met four old women chatting together. They were misled by the CCP lies and were criticizing Falun Dafa. I sat down and chatted with them.

“Do you cook at home?” I asked.

“I have cooked over half of my life,” one said.

“Have you ever burned hands or arms?” I asked. They answered yes. I then asked them if they felt pain. They said it hurt even after the injury was rinsed with cold water or vinegar.

“You watched the report about the Tiananmen self-immolation incident on TV. One of the participants was burnt severely. Why did he not feel pain? He should have been rolling on the ground,” I said. They agreed.

I said, “They were actors who were hired to participate in the hoax to slander Falun Dafa. You all lived through the Cultural Revolution. Don’t forget the lessons we all learned and be misled again. This hoax is used to instigate hatred towards Falun Dafa,” I said. I then analyzed the suspicious parts of the CCTV’s Tiananmen self-immolation report one by one for them. They understood finally.

I was shopping in a stationery store recently. The 53-year-old proprietress mentioned the Tiananmen self-immolation hoax while we chatted. I realized that people in her age group were also misled. I turned on my cell phone to show her the truth about the hoax and explained it to her using my personal experience. She understood.

By bringing up the Tiananmen self-immolation hoax. I hope to wake up those children who were misled by the CCP’s lies in their childhood textbooks and let them understand—stay away from the CCP, and have a safe future.

Background: What Is Falun Dafa and Why Is the CCP Persecuting It?

Falun Dafa (also known as Falun Gong) was first introduced to the public by Mr. Li Hongzhi in Changchun, China, in 1992. The spiritual discipline is now practiced in over 100 countries and regions worldwide. Millions of people who have embraced the teachings, which are based on the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, and learned the five exercises have experienced improved health and well-being.

Jiang Zemin, former head of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), perceived the spiritual discipline’s growing popularity as a threat to the CCP’s atheistic ideology and on July 20, 1999, issued an order to ban the practice.

Minghui.org has confirmed the deaths of thousands of practitioners as a result of the persecution over the past 23 years. The actual number is believed to be much higher. More have been imprisoned and tortured for their faith.

There is concrete evidence that the CCP sanctions the harvesting of organs from detained practitioners, who are murdered to supply the organ transplant industry.

Under Jiang’s personal direction, the CCP established the 610 Office, an extralegal security organization with the power to override the police and judicial systems and whose sole function is to carry out the persecution of Falun Dafa.
