(Minghui.org) A 65-year-old Meizhou City, Guangdong Province resident was recently sentenced to 1.5 years for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Liao Xiaoping was arrested on October 3, 2021 after being recorded by a surveillance camera distributing informational materials about Falun Gong.

The police used the few copies of Falun Gong flyers confiscated from her home as prosecution evidence and submitted her case to the procuratorate.

Ms. Liao appeared in the Meixian District Court on December 21, 2021 and was later sentenced to 1.5 years with a 15,000-yuan fine.

Past Persecution

Ms. Liao began to practice Falun Gong in 2004. In less than one month, her vertebral lumbar and shoulder osteoarthritis disappeared.

She was arrested on July 4, 2012 and had her home ransacked. After 20 days at the Qinyang Detention Center, she was taken to the Sanshui Forced Labor Camp to serve a one-year term, given without due process. The guards deprived her of sleep and forced her to work without pay.

Ms. Liao was arrested again on April 22, 2020, after being reported by her ex-son-in-law who had just divorced her daughter. She was held at the Jiaoling County Lockup for 10 days.

The deputy Party secretary of Chengbei Town, two 610 Office agents and one police officer came to Ms. Liao’s home on September 15, 2020. As she wasn’t home when they came, they called her and ordered her to return. They demanded she copy and sign three prepared documents to renounce Falun Gong. After Ms. Liao refused to comply, the officials forced her family to hand-copy it for her and then forced her to sign it.
