(Minghui.org) A 32-year-old Beijing resident was admitted to Daxing Prison in September 2022 to serve a two-year term for his faith in Falun Gong. Mr. Zhang Chengguo has been denied family visits since his arrest over a year ago.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Mr. Zhang is a native of Dengzhou City, Henan Province. He landed a job in Beijing after graduating college. He was arrested on June 3, 2021 for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong, and sentenced to two years and fined 3,000 yuan by the Changping District Court in December 2021. He appealed with the Beijing No. 1 Intermediate Court, which ruled to uphold his original verdict.

It took tremendous effort for Mr. Zhang’s wife, a stay-at-home mom, to confirm that he had been taken to the Daxing Prison in September 2022 after being held in Changping District Detention Center for 15 months.

Citing the pandemic as an excuse, both the detention center and the prison have denied Mr. Zhang family visits by his wife and their two young children, aged 3 and 4.

Since Mr. Zhang was admitted to the prison, his wife has written him five letters, which were all delivered by certified mail, requiring a signature from the recipient. But she hasn’t received any reply from him yet and she worries whether the letters were withheld by the prison guards or he was not allowed to write her back.
