(Minghui.org) While serving time in Chengdu City Women’s Prison in Sichuan Province, Ms. Lan Xianghua, a 55-year-old Chengdu resident, became slow-witted after inmates Chen Xinshu and Wang Fuxiang put drugs, suspected of being harmful to the central nervous system, into her meals and water, under the instructions of the prison guards.
Since Ms. Lan is divorced and no one sent money to her in prison. She doesn’t even have money to buy toilet paper. The prison officials did not allow other imprisoned practitioners to help her.
Ms. Lan’s latest imprisonment followed her arrest in 2019 for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. She was sentenced to three years, and the details of her trial remain to be investigated.
Ms. Lan was first detained at the Longquanyi District Detention Center after her arrest. Police officer Zhang Huimin forced her to wear shackles and handcuffs around the clock until she was taken to the prison.
Past Persecution
Prior to her latest prison sentencing, Ms. Lan was targeted for her faith several times.
She was once held at the Xinjin Brainwashing Center, where she was forcibly injected with unknown drugs that damaged her central nervous system. She occasionally became delirious, had convulsions, or collapsed into unconsciousness after her release.
She was arrested again around the end of 2015, and was handcuffed for four days in the Longquanyi District Detention Center. After being released for about two weeks, she was arrested again in January 2016 and sent to the same detention center. She was transferred to Chengdu City Women’s Prison in early 2017. It is unclear what prison term she was ordered to serve.
Crimes Committed in Chengdu City Women’s Prison
Chengdu City Women’s Prison is located in 200 Longhong road, Longquanyi District, Chengdu City. It is also known to locals as Longquanyi Woman’s Prison and Sichuan Province Women’s Prison. The prison has been imprisoning Falun Gong practitioners since the persecution began, and the prison officials have been actively participating in the persecution of practitioners. They deployed many brutal torture methods over the years, including electric shocks, handcuffing, exposure to extreme hot and cold, long-time standing, running, or sitting, injection of toxic drugs, brutal forced-feedings, restricted access to toilets, solitary confinement, denial of visitation rights, and more. At the same time, the practitioners were also forced to watch videos that defamed Falun Gong.
According to available reports from Minghui.org, from 2013 to the present, seven Falun Gong practitioners, including Ms. Chen Shikang, Ms. Hu Xia, Ms. Yan Hongmei, Ms. Hu Yanshun, Ms. Liang Wende, Ms. Ding Guoqin, and Ms. Gao Chunxiu, had been persecuted to death while being held in the prison or shortly after their release.
Ms. Yan Hongmei, from Chengdu, was persecuted to death on the morning of December 28, 2017 in the prison. When her family saw her body, her head was wrapped with gauze and her body was covered by a cloth. The prison authorities then cremated her body and sent her ashes home with the family.
Her family went to the prison hospital and saw her three days before her death. Her entire body was swollen, but the prison authorities refused to grant her medical parole.
