Additional Persecution News from China – August 18, 2021 (18 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 19 cities or counties in 10 provinces, where at least 25 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Jiayuguan City, Gansu Province] Ms. Yu Shufeng Pressured to Transform

Ms. Yu Shufeng, in her 80s, was arrested for hanging up banners containing the words, “Falun Dafa is Good” during the Chinese New Year season in 2020. She was sentenced to four years in prison and held in the Lanzhou Women’s Prison.

Prison officials did not allow her family members to meet with her on the grounds that she refused to be transformed. Her family sent her 500 yuan on April 3, 2021, which has not been given to her yet.

Her family hired a lawyer on her behalf, who filed an application for her to serve the sentence outside of prison. Until now, the prison officials have not given her a medical examination, which is a prerequisite for processing the application. Her family members are gravely concerned about Ms. Yu’s physical condition given her age. Now her family members are living under surveillance.

2. [Weifang City, Shandong Province] Ms. Li Shuxiang Sentenced to Prison

Ms. Li Shuxiang from the Weicheng District was sentenced to one year in prison and fined 5,000 yuan.

3. [Xingtai City, Hebei Province] Ms. Kang Huazhi Faces Trial

Ms. Kang Huazhi from Wei County was scheduled to be tried at the Guangzong County Court on the afternoon of August 20, 2021.

4. [Chengdu City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Lu Chunhua and Ms. Tao Lanzhi Missing

Ms. Lu Chunhua, about 70, and Ms. Tao Lanzhi, in her 60s, from Hong’an Town, Longquanyi District, have been missing since June 2021.

5. [Sanhe City, Hebei Province] Ms. Xu Shaojing and Ms. Niu Guiling Harassed

Officers from the Yanjiao Police Station went to Ms. Xu Shaojing’s home in the Caigezhuang area and photographed her on August 9, 2021.

The officers went to Ms. Niu Guiling’s home in the Wanggezhuang Village and photographed her on August 11.

6. [Laizhou City, Shandong Province] Ms. Qiu Lijun Taken to Brainwashing Center

Ms. Qiu Lijun was reported to the police for talking to people about Falun Gong on August 7, 2021. She was arrested and taken to the Dianzi Brainwashing Center. She did not cooperate with the domestic security officers, who pressured her to sign paperwork. They said if she did not sign, they would not let her go home.

Four or five plainclothes officers took her back home on August 16. They ransacked the place and confiscated two booklets that contained information about Falun Gong.

7. [Yanji City, Jilin Province] Ms. Yang Xiumei Harassed

A residential officer from the Beishan Police Station and staff members of the Danmin Community Management went to Ms. Yang Xiumei’s home on the morning of July 20, 2021. They pressured her to sign paperwork, which she refused. They threatened to call her daughter. When they were reprimanded by her non-practitioner husband, they left.

8. [Weihai City, Shandong Province] Ms. Zhao Jinxiang Closely Monitored and Followed

The Wendeng District 610 Office gave instructions to the Huanshan Sub-district Administration Office, which in turn asked the Jincheng Community Residential Committee to secretly arrange staff members to monitor and follow Ms. Zhao Jinxiang around the clock.

9. [Jinan City, Shandong Province] Ms. Huang Bo Arrested

Ms. Huang Bo, about 70, was arrested at home by officers from the Luoyuan Police Station, Shizhong District, on the morning of August 11, 2021.

10. [Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province] Ms. Zhao Rongcai Arrested

Ms. Zhao Rongcai from Pizhou City was arrested on July 30, 2021. She is facing detention or imprisonment.

11. [Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Xia Yufang Arrested

Ms. Xia Yufang, 64, was arrested at home by residential officer Lu Binghong and other officers on August 12, 2021. The officers ransacked her home and confiscated all of her Falun Gong books and a laptop.

Ms. Xia was taken to the Shawan Detention Center in Panyu District. She was not admitted because she failed the medical examination. The organization that handled the case issued a notice of release pending trial to her family. Her family refused to sign the notice. Ms. Xia was dropped off at her home.

12. [Binzhou City, Shandong Province] Du Dacun and Wei Jiangmei Face Trial

Du Dacun (gender unknown) and Ms. Wei Jiangmei were arrested a few months ago. They are being held in the Binzhou City Detention Center. They were scheduled to be tried by the Bincheng District Court at 3 p.m. on August 25, 2021.

13. [Hefei City, Anhui Province] Mr. Yang Shuhua Arrested

Over 30 people from the Feidong County Domestic Security Division went to Taowang Village, Liujiafan area, in an attempt to arrest Mr. Yang Shugui and his brother Mr. Yang Shuhua on August 11, 2021.

They ransacked the brothers’ home and confiscated a computer, a printer, all their Falun Gong books, printed materials, and photos of the founder of Falun Gong.

Mr. Yang Shugui escaped. Mr. Yang Shuhua was arrested.

Mr. Yang Shuhua returned home the next day. His non-practitioner niece Xiaoping was also arrested. She was released that evening.

14. [Xintai City, Shandong Province] Mr. Shi Zhengtong Arrested

Mr. Shi Zhengtong, in his 80s, from Shijiazhuang Village, Zhai Town, was arrested by officers from the Zhai Town Police Station at a farmers market in early June 2021. The officers ransacked his home and confiscated an audio player.

15. [Shanghai] Ms. Chen Shiying Harassed

Police officers in the Putuo District went to Ms. Chen Shiying’s home and harassed her in early May 2021. They convinced her husband Mr. Ma to go to the police station, where they forcibly took his blood samples and fingerprints.

At the end of April, police officers in Putuo District went to the home of practitioner Zhang Jiahui (gender unknown) and coerced Zhang to go to the police station, where they forcibly took Zhang’s blood samples and fingerprints. Between June 26 to July 6, for 10 consecutive days, three people staked out, monitored, and followed Zhang around the clock. Starting on July 20, they continued to stake out and monitor Zhang for four consecutive days.

16. [Zhuji City, Zhejiang Province] Mr. Fu Yue Taken to Brainwashing Center

Mr. Fu Yue was arrested on the afternoon of August 12, 2021. He is being held in the Shaoxing City Brainwashing Center.

17. [Xi’an City, Shaanxi Province] Ms. Zhang Na Held in Detention Center

Ms. Zhang Na, a teacher at the Xiguang Primary School in Xincheng District, was arrested by officers from the Changle Middle Road Police Station in early July 2021. She is being held in the Xi’an City Detention Center.

18. [Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Jian Fengqiong Held in Detention Center

Ms. Jian Fengqiong from Futian District could not be reached for nearly nine months since the end of November 2020. After numerous inquiries, it was confirmed that she was held in the Longgang District Detention Center for refusing to cooperate when she was subjected to brainwashing.

19. [Dongguan City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Li Yanxia Tried

Ms. Li Yanxian from Tangxia Town was tried via video link on August 17, 2021. She was not notified prior to the trial. The trial lasted for an hour and a half. No sentence was pronounced at the end of the session.
