(Minghui.org) A woman in Wuhan, Hubei Province, was arrested in April 2021 for practicing Falun Gong. After 15 days of detention, she was taken to a brainwashing center for a month.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

For upholding her faith, Ms. Liu Meili has been subjected to constant harassment in the past few years. Especially after she moved in January 2018, the community workers took pictures of her and her family members and collected detailed information about her family.

Under orders from Wu Hao, the director of the Qingshan District Political and Legal Affairs Committee (PLAC), community workers waited outside of Ms. Liu’s apartment building and monitored her for days, often on anniversaries related to Falun Gong or any major events in the city, including the World Military Games in October 2019.

After Ms. Liu’s family complained to the officers about the harassment, the community police set up a chair and umbrella facing her building. Someone sat in the chair under the umbrella all day long, looking at the entrance of Ms. Liu’s apartment building. Sometimes he went over to the entrance and walked around. When Ms. Liu went out, he quickly left, pretending he didn’t see her.

Ms. Liu was photographed by a plainclothes officer for giving a passerby a Falun Gong informational booklet on April 12, 2021. Officers quickly appeared, put a black hood over her head, and took her to the Yejinjie Police Station. She refused to answer any questions and was given 15 days in the Erzhigou Lockup by officer Guo Chunwu and others.

On April 27, the end of her term, officers put the black hood on Ms. Liu’s head again and pushed her into a police car. They held her hands and feet and didn’t let her speak. She tried to resist but gradually lost strength. She then noticed that the hood was on backward, with the breathing hole behind her head.

She was taken to a brainwashing center on the fifth floor of a hotel. She felt very dizzy and exhausted.

Wu Hao and Liu Yong of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee ordered her to write a statement to say that she had applied to attend the “study session” on her own initiative. When she refused to comply, a person surnamed Zhou, who’d been hired to brainwash her, wrote such a statement and forced her to copy it. Zhou also wrote other statements demonizing Falun Gong and forced Ms. Liu to copy them.

Wu also hired another man and a woman to monitor Ms. Liu and stay in the same room with her at night.

During that month, Ms. Liu wasn’t allowed to leave the room. Only two days before her release was she allowed to walk down the hallway.

At around 10 p.m. on May 27, the police put a black hood on her head again and took her home. Before they left, they forced her to turn in her Falun Gong books and materials.
