In April 2020, she was reported to the police for spreading the facts about Falun Gong and the persecution and was harassed at home by domestic security officers and community management personnel. Her family was also implicated and threatened.
12. [Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province] Mr. Jia Linquan Repeatedly Harassed While Riding the Train
Mr. Jia Linquan is from Pingshan County. Beginning in the spring of 2019, he took the train to go to Chang’an University in Xi’an City, Shaanxi Province, or to return home during summer or winter vacations. He was often questioned by police officers on the train who targeted him particularly.
Usually, the officers would come to him as soon as he sat down in his seat, and told him to take all his luggage and get off the train. People in nearby seats would look at him strangely. The officers would carefully search through all his luggage on the train platform, and sometimes they would body-search him. On one occasion, they wanted to see the pictures on his phone. None of the officers ever showed any documents or identified themselves.
The most recent encounter took place in the early morning hours of June 26, 2021. When Mr. Jia walked to his seat, an officer was sitting in his seat, waiting for him. After the officer confirmed his seat number, he asked Mr. Jia to show his national ID card to confirm his identity. After a while, another officer took him to a compartment at the head of the carriage for questioning. They told him, “Your ID card is different from those of others. It indicates that you are a primary target the authorities are concerned about.”
Since April 2019, Mr. Jia was harassed by the police officers each year when he took the train. During the first encounter, four police officers suddenly showed up on the train. All four officers wore gloves, as they would when investigating a crime scene. They searched his luggage, and videotaped the process. Because of this repeated harassment, Mr. Jia was put under huge psychological pressure.
In addition, on May 20, 2021, when Mr. Jia was on campus in Xi’an City, officers from the Chengguan Police Station in Pingshan County, Hebei Province, called him and his father at home in Hebei Province many times for no reason. He did not answer these calls. The officers made the calls using a pool of different cell phone numbers as well as landlines. On the afternoon of May 20, Pingshan County police made 17 harassing calls to him within 13 minutes.
