(Minghui.org) Ms. Wu Shengjiang of Xingtai City, Hebei Province, was taken to Xingtai No. 1 Detention Center on June 1, 2021, one year after she was arrested for handing out Falun Gong materials to the public.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

On June 3, 2020, Ms. Wu, 70, was arrested in Di Village, Julu County. Her home was ransacked. She was detained for almost a month in Xingtai No. 1 Detention Center. The authorities approved her arrest in June 2020 before releasing her on bail in July 2020. The police went to her home on multiple occasions, but she was never there.

The police went to Ms. Wu’s home again on June 1, 2021, but she was not at home then, either. The officers told her husband that her case had been submitted to the Julu County Procuratorate and ordered him to call her. Ms. Wu’s husband called her and told her, “People from the procuratorate and the police want you to meet with them and write a guarantee statement.”

When Ms. Wu returned home, her husband told her that the officials and police officers were waiting at the village committee office. Ms. Wu decided to see them and tell them about the facts of Falun Gong. Her husband was concerned about her safety and went with her.

When they got there, Ms. Wu told them all how she regained her health by practicing Falun Gong. At the age of 48, she had been diagnosed with heart disease, lymphatic tuberculosis, and late-stage hepatitis B liver ascites. The doctor predicted that she had only a month left to live. At the recommendation of a family friend, Ms. Wu started practicing Falun Gong in April 1999. Soon after, all her illnesses went away without any medication.

The Julu County Procuratorate officials still wanted Ms. Wu to go with them, claiming she needed to sign a certain document. After she refused to comply, her husband volunteered to go on her behalf and sign the document for her.

Shortly after he returned, he was shocked to discover that the police had arrested Ms. Wu while he was away, with the excuse of “refusing to cooperate with the work of the Procuratorate.” They didn’t tell him where she was detained, but he later found out she was in the Xingtai No. 1 Detention Center.

Two days later, Ms. Wu’s husband received an official arrest warrant. The police refused to tell him when she would be released.

This is not the first time that Ms. Wu has been targeted for upholding her faith. Ever since the Chinese Communist Party started the persecution of Falun Gong, Ms. Wu has been arrested multiple times. She was once shocked with electric batons in police custody and subjected to extortion by the police.
