(Minghui.org) A Tianjin resident was sentenced to 3.5 years for practicing Falun Gong in April 2021 and saw her appeal rejected two months later. Ms. Guo Huili is still detained at the Wuqing District Detention Center at the time of writing, where she has been held since her arrest two years ago.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Guo’s apartment suddenly had a power outage at around 6 a.m. on September 25, 2019. As soon as she opened the door, trying to go to the hallway to check her electric box, two officers broke in and arrested her.
After Ms. Guo was taken to the Yucailu Police Station, another group of officers, led by Li Kai in his 20s, came and ransacked her home.
After spending a day at the police station, Ms. Guo was taken to the Wuqing District Detention Center at around 9 p.m. and has been held there since. Her arrest was approved on September 30 and the police submitted her case to the Wuqing District Procuratorate on October 18.
The Quqing District Court initially scheduled a hearing of her case on December 30, 2019, but later canceled it after her lawyer was late.
Ms. Guo had two video hearings, on December 18, 2020 and March 10, 2021, respectively, before the judge informed her family on April 6 that she has been sentenced to 3.5 years.
She appealed with the Tianjin No.1 Intermediate Court, but the judge informed her lawyer in late June that her appeal was rejected.
Since the communist regime ordered the persecution in 1999, Ms. Guo, a former teacher, has served two years in a forced labor camp. She was subjected to various forms of torture, such as being forced to stand for long periods of time, sleep deprivation, brainwashing and others. After she was released, her school refused to reinstate her job. She was forced to live away from home after local police tried to send her to a brainwashing center.
