Improving Character through Making Phone Calls to China

(Minghui.org) Over the past two days I have made two very special phone calls to China, to raise awareness about Falun Dafa and the persecution. 

A young man answered the first phone call. He talked endlessly and his words indicated that he couldn’t tell the difference between the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and China. 

So I raised my voice higher than his and wanted him to listen to me. Then suddenly, my computer went blank and crashed. I knew this was a warning as I didn’t consider whether others could accept what I had to say. I was too competitive!

The next day I called another young man in China. After I had just finished my opening remarks and began to try to persuade him to quit the CCP and its youth organizations, he yelled at me. 

This time I remained completely calm, and I said, “Don’t be angry, and listen to me.” 

I calmly talked to him about the Hidden Words Rock, the CCP’s state-sanctioned organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners, and the evil history of the CCP. I was pleasantly surprised to find that he did not hang up, and instead was listening quietly. Finally, when I asked him if he would quit the CCP, he simply said yes! 

It was a 180-degree turn. Moreover, we had a good conversation. He said that he had witnessed what had happened in Tiananmen Square in 1989, and he hated the CCP. 

I then asked him why he yelled at me before. He said, “Whenever I hear the Party mentioned, I lose my temper!” Fortunately, I talked to him calmly; otherwise I would have missed a predestined person. 

This young man accepted the words I asked him to remember and sincerely repeat, “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good!”

In the past, every time I made a call and the person swore at me, I became frustrated and didn’t know how to continue; I felt helpless. 

Master said, 

“While working, your tone of voice, your kindheartedness, and your reasoning can change a person’s heart, whereas commands never could!” (Clearheadedness,” Essentials For Further Advancement)

If we impose our ideas on others, and under the influence of a strong self, can’t control our tone, then the effect will not be good. However, when we speak calmly and compassionately, our words are able to move people and save them.

I thank Master Li, the founder of Falun Dafa, for giving me this opportunity to get involved in the phone-calling project to save people. I will cultivate myself well, study the Fa more, and do well with the project.
