Additional Persecution News from China – May 18, 2020 (Part 1, 40 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 34 cities or counties in 15 provinces, where at least 86 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Mr. Du Jingyi Sentenced to Nine Years in Prison

Mr. Du Jingyi, who is a lawyer, was sentenced to nine years in prison by the Chaoyang District Court and the Changchun City Intermediate Court. He is detained in the No. 2 Detention Center of Changchun and will soon be taken to prison.

2. [Chengdu City, Sichuan Province] Mr. Yang Huaming Sentenced to Four Years in Prison

Mr. Yang Huaming, who works in the Sichuan Maternity and Children Health Hospital, was sentenced to four years in prison on May 12, 2021.

3. [Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province] Ms. Li Guifang Sentenced to One Year in Prison

Ms. Li Guifang from Yuhua District was reported to police when she was in Beiyi Village, Gaocheng District, and was arrested by officers from the Liangcun Development Police Station. Her home was ransacked. She has been detained in the No. 2 Detention Center of Shijiazhuang for six months. She was tried by the Jin County Court on May 14, 2021 and it was said that she was sentenced to one year in prison.

4. [Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province] Ms. Bu Rumei Transferred to Prison

Ms. Bu Rumei was sentenced to one year and six months by the Wujin District Court on October 23, 2020. She was transferred to the Nanjing Women’s Prison on May 13, 2021.

5. [Pingding County, Shanxi Province] Ms. Chen Guimei Harassed

Director Yang and a police officer from the Jucheng Town Police Station, led by Zhao Shuanzhu, a villager in Zhaojiayu Village, came to Ms. Chen Guimei’s home on the afternoon of May 8, 2021. They asked Ms. Chen’s husband whether his wife still practiced Falun Gong and where she worked. Ms. Chen’s husband refused to answer their questions. They hung around for half an hour, then left.

6. [Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia] Mr. Guo Zhenfang and His Wife Ms. Feng Yuhua Face Trial Again

Mr. Guo Zhenfang and his wife Ms. Feng Yuhua were arrested on the morning of November 25, 2020. They have been detained in the Songshan Detention Center. 

The couple was tried in the Songshan District Court on April 8, 2021. During the court session, because the evidence needed to be reconfirmed, the case was returned to the procuratorate and the trial was delayed. 

The couple was scheduled to be tried again in the Songshan District Court on May 19, 2021. 

7. [Jinan City, Shandong Province] Ms. Chang Xinhong Harassed

Ms. Chang Xinhong was called in to have a talk with Xu Jigui, chairman of the Labor Union of the Laiwu Technician College on May 11, 2021. According to Xu Jigui, personnel from the Laiwu District Political and Legal Affairs Committee instructed the college to recount the people who practiced Falun Gong. Those who said they no longer practiced, would be removed from the blacklist. They would not be restricted from taking trains or flights and their family members would not be implicated. 

8. [Ningxiang City, Hunan Province] Ms. Tan Juanyun and Ms. Li Wei Arrested and Harassed

Ms. Tan Juanyun, 53, was reported to police for talking to people about Falun Gong and was arrested by officers from the Yutan Police Station on the afternoon of May 6, 2021. Ms. Tan started a hunger strike to protest the persecution. She was interrogated in the police station for two and a half days and then was detained in the Ningxiang Detention Center for five days. She was released on May 12, 2021.

Ms. Li Wei, 74, was taken from her home to the Yutan Police Station around 11 a.m., May 13, 2021. They collected her fingerprints, recorded her voice, and photographed and videotaped her, and took her statement. Ms. Li was released around 3 p.m. that afternoon. 

Many practitioners were recently harassed by personnel from the local police station, town governments, and local communities, who came to practitioners’ homes and take photos.

9. [Laizhou City, Shandong Province] Ms. Mao Chonghui's Home Raided

Ms. Mao Chonghui was seen by village surveillance cameras when she distributed truth-clarifying materials in Shangwangjia Village, Nanshili Town on the morning of May 13, 2021. She was reported to the Nanshili Town Police Station. Four officers came to Ms. Mao’s home that afternoon and ransacked it. They confiscated Dafa books and truth-clarifying materials. They told the family to pick up her seized electric bike at the police station the next day. 

Ms. Mao’s family member went to the police station the next day and was told that Ms. Mao had to be there, but she’d already left home to avoid further persecution. Her current whereabouts are unknown.

10. [Lanzhou, Gansu Province] Three Practitioners Arrested 

Ms. Jin Yijun from Qilihe District and Ms. Zhao Li from the Xigu District, visited Ms. Qi Lijun at her home in Chengguan District on May 13, 2021. Soon after the two entered Ms. Qi’s home, the police came and knocked on the door. The women did not open the door or let the police in.

In the following hours, six practitioners were arrested by police when they came to visit Ms. Qi. They were detained in the Jiayuguan Road Police Station and were released around 4 a.m. the next morning. 

The police did not get into Ms. Qi’s home until 7 p.m. that evening when they opened the door with the master key. They ransacked her home. The three practitioners were taken to the Jiayuguan Road Police Station around midnight. They were detained at the police station until midnight of May 16, 2021. Ms. Qi Lijun was released. Ms. Jin Yijun and Ms. Zhao Li were taken to the Taoshuping Detention Center. 

11. [Hanchuan City, Hubei Province] Mr. Ding Hanyong Arrested

Mr. Ding Hanyong and his family have business in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. He briefly returned to his hometown, Hanchuan City, and was going back to Guangzhou by train. He was arrested at the Wuchang Railway Station. The details are unknown. The police ransacked his home in Hanchuan City and confiscated twelve Dafa books. 

12. [Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province] Mr. Gao Xingtai Arrested

Mr. Gao Xingtai was arrested by officers from the Shimenzhai Police Station on the morning of May 14, 2021. The details are unknown.

13. [Fushun City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Li Ling and Ms. Zhao Guiping Arrested and Harassed 

Ms. Li Ling and Ms. Zhao Guiping from Hongtoushan Town, Qingyuan County, were arrested on April 28, 2021 and were detained in the Fushun Detention Center for 10 days. They were released on May 8, 2021. 

Local police officers came to harass them at their homes on the morning of May 14, 2021.

14. [Weifang City, Shandong Province] Mr. Wu Chengshou Arrested and Detained

Mr. Wu Chengshou was arrested by officers from the Gaoxin District Domestic Security Division on April 20, 2021. He was taken to the Fuyanshan Police Station and later to the Changle Detention Center. Mr. Wu was transferred to the Weifang Detention Center on May 13, 2021. 

15. [Chengdu City, Sichuan Province] Nine Practitioners Arrested

Mr. Su Qinghua was arrested at home by a group of special police just after 6 a.m. on May 12, 2021. They tied his mother to a chair and ransacked the home. Mr. Su and his younger brother were arrested. Because his father was paralyzed in bed, his mother was not taken away. 

Liu Shengrong (gender unknown) was arrested at home around 6:30 a.m., May 12, 2021. 

After Ms. Li Yun from Xindu District was arrested, multiple practitioners in her phone contact list were also arrested, including Xie Shiying, Zhang Xunju, Huang Huaizhou, Su Qinghua, Zhou Rongxiu and Tian Xiaoquan.

16. [Chenzhou City, Hunan Province] Ms. Wan Yuping Interrogated by Police

Ms. Wan Yuping, who lives in the Shizhuyuan Community, was interrogated by officers from the Bailutang Town Police Station on May 10, 2021.

Practitioners in the Shizhuyuan Community, Bailutang Town were harassed by community staff members in April. 

17. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Lin Junyan Harassed

Ms. Lin Junyan was harassed at home by officers from the Chunliu Police Station in early April 2021. They asked whether she still practiced Falun Gong while videotaping the conversation. 

18. [Jilin City, Jilin Province] Ms. Xu Harassed

Ms. Xu lives in No. 23 Building, Xichengshoufu Residential Community, Chuanying District. Officers from the Xiguan Police Station came to her home in two police cars around 7 p.m. on May 14, 2021. When they couldn’t get in, they called Ms. Xu’s son to try to open the door. But they were still unable to get in. Ms. Xu has now left home to avoid further persecution.

19. [Dongying City, Shandong Province] Mr. Gao Hongwei Detained

Mr. Gao Hongwei is being held in the No. 11 Ward of Shandong Provincial Prison. He is now allowed to call his family but they are still not allowed to visit him.

20. [Anlu City, Hubei Province] Zhou Zhibin Harassed

Secretary Chen of the Chendian Township Party Committee, the director of the Chendian Township Police Station, and the head of the Chendian Health Center, came to harass Zhou Zhibin (gender unknown) on May 14, 2021. Zhou was pressured to sign the three statements, which Zhou refused.

21. [Chongqing] Four Practitioners Arrested

Tian and another practitioner visited Ms. Lei Zhirong in the Shuilidu Residential Community, Shimahe Sub-district, Jiangbei District on May 7, 2021. The police arrived during the visit. They ransacked Ms. Lei’s home and confiscated her Dafa books, laptop, printer, and other items. Four practitioners were arrested. It is said that Tian's cell phone was bugged by the police. Ms. Lei and Yang were released that same day. 

22. [Shanghai] Ms. Xu Fengqing and Ms. Li Aiyan Harassed

Ms. Xu Fengqing, 86, was harassed at home on May 12, 2021. Local community officer Dai and residential community staff member Zhang knocked on her door. They pressured her to sign the guarantee statement, which she refused. 

Ms. Li Aiyan has been harassed multiple times by officer Qian Shengli from the Gaodong Town Community in recent months. Qian often harassed Ms. Li’s husband and their daughter and told them to watch Ms. Li. Qiang. Another person from the town government came to Ms. Li Aiyan’s home in April 2021. They wanted to photograph Ms. Li, but she did not let them. They tried to get her daughter to take a photo of her. 

23. [Huizhou City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Zhao Tianhua Arrested

A group of policemen arrested Ms. Zhao Tianhua, her husband, and other people in Ms. Zhao’s home on the evening of May 11, 2021. Further details are unknown.

24. [Donggang City, Liaoning Province] Six Practitioners Harassed

Six practitioners were harassed by a woman from the Beizi Town Government and officers from the Bianfang Police Station and the Gong’an Police Station, on May 6 and 7, 2021. They are Ms. Zhao Xiufang, Ms. Cai Shuli, Ms. Pan Guizhen, Mr. Yu Qingxian, Li Ling (gender unknown) and Ms. Na Shuchun.

25. [Chengdu City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Shui Qunhua Arrested

Ms. Shui Qunhua from the Wenjiang District was reported to police for talking to people about Falun Gong in Zoujiachang. She was arrested by officers from the Jiujiang Town Police Station in Shuangliu District on the morning of May 13, 2021. 

26. [Tangshan City, Hebei Province] GPS Locator Found in Ms. Liu Sujun’s Car 

Ms. Liu Sujun from Luannan County went to a car repair shop at the end of April 2021. A black box was found attached to the car chassis and she was told it was a GPS locator. 

27. [Shenmu City, Shaanxi Province] Mr. Li Zhiqiang Harassed

Mr. Li Zhiqiang was taken to the office of a deputy mayor of Shenmu City by a staff member of Chengguan Sub-district Office on May 11, 2021. Mr. Li was pressured to sign the three guarantee statements and was told that it was required in a unified action throughout the entire city.

28. [Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Zhen Yuling Arrested

Ms. Zhen Yulin lives in Goumenzi Village, Xidayingzi Town, Longcheng District. She was arrested by officers from the Xiangyang District Police Department on May 15, 2021. She is currently detained in the Chaoyang City Detention Center. 

29. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Song Jinling Faces Trial

Ms. Song Jinling, in her 50s, from Xiangfang District was arrested by officers from the Qizheng Street Police Station and the Nangang District Police Department on September 20, 2020. 

The police found Ms. Song by tracking another practitioner. They installed a surveillance camera in Ms. Song’s home. They also found her second house. Both houses were ransacked. The police confiscated many personal belongings including her Dafa books, computer, printer, more than 1,700 yuan in paper bills with Falun Gong facts imprinted on them, more than 40,000-50,000 yuan in cash. 

Ms. Song has been detained in the No. 2 Detention Center since then and has not been allowed to be visited by her family. Her release is overdue and she has high blood pressure. Her case was returned twice by the procuratorate. It was recently submitted to the court. 

30. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Du Yongcai Harassed

Du Yongcai (gender unknown) was harassed at home on May 11, 2021. Village chief Zhou Lijun and officers from the Shihe Police Station came to harass Du. When they tried to take photos, Du stopped them. They asked whether Du still practiced Falun Gong. Du told them how Falun Gong saved her/him from cancer. The officers told Du that it was okay to just practice at home.

31. [Fushun City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Sun Yanzhi Arrested

Mr. Sun Yanzhi, 77, was arrested again.

32. [Tianjin] Three Practitioners Harassed

Three practitioners including Dong Naiyu (gender unknown), Dong Naifen (gender unknown) and Ms. Hu Yulan, were harassed at home on May 12 and 13, 2021. Officer Yang from the Chenju Township Police Station in Wuqing District, former Dawang Village security official Ma Jisheng, the secretary of the village Party committee Yang Chunlei and Lan, went to practitioners’ homes to harass and threaten them. When they tried to photograph Dong Naiyu, Dong firmly refused. 

33. [Zhenjiang City, Jiangsu Province] Five Practitioners Arrested 

Many practitioners were arrested on March 23, 2021. Three of them including Ms. Xu Mulan, Ms. Xia Yulan, and Ms. Xu Guiming, are still detained in the Zhenjiang City Detention Center. Ms. Ye and Ms. Tang were detained for two days and five days respectively and have been released. 

34. [Xiangyang City, Hubei Province] Mr. Zhao Guojiang Persecuted in Prison

According to a practitioner released from the Fanjiatai Prison in Shayang County, Mr. Zhao Guojiang from Xiangyang City, was verbally abused and beaten by Wang Xiongjie, head of the No. 8 Ward, and guards Wang Zhe and Zhang Guangxu in the prison guard office on March 7, 2020, because he failed to finish the daily forced labor quota. After he was beaten, Mr. Zhao was sent to the strictly controlled team for one month. His family was not allowed to visit him due to the pandemic so no one knows his current situation. 

35. [Jinchang City, Gansu Province] Ms. Cao Fang Harassed

Changtaili Community staff members came to Ms. Cao Fang’s home on May 14, 2021. Ms. Cao’s husband refused to sign the three statements. The community staff members claimed they would return. 

That same day, Ms. Cao’s daughter Ms. He Shuhui received a phone call requesting a visit to her home, which she refused. Ms. He went to the community office after work. She was pressured to sign the three statements, which she refused.

36. [Rong County, Sichuan Province] Ms. Li Liangjuan Detained in Prison

Ms. Li Liangjuan was sentenced to one year in prison with three years of probation and fined 5,000 yuan on May 27, 2020. However, she was taken to prison on April 23, 2021. Ms. Li is now detained in the Wumaping Prison in Leshan City. 

37. [Shanghai] Three Practitioners Arrested 

Several officers in police uniforms broke into the home of 87-year-old Ms. Lu Gendi in the Jintaisanju Community, Jinyang Sub-district on May 10, 2021. They confiscated some Dafa articles and arrested the two practitioners who were there, including 73-year-old Ms. Gao Lingling and 73-year-old Ms. Liu Mingying. It was confirmed that Ms. Gao Lingling has since returned home.

38. [Tangshan City, Hebei Province] Six Practitioners Arrested 

Six practitioners were arrested around 5 a.m. on May 12, 2021. They are Mr. Miao Yongli and his wife Ms. Niu Ruiying, Ms. Niu Ruizhi (the eldest sister of Ms. Niu Ruiying), Ms. Niu Ruiqin (the fifth elder sister of Ms. Niu Ruiying), Wu Caixia (gender unknown) and Wang Guizhi (gender unknown). Their homes were ransacked and personal belongings were confiscated. 

Ms. Niu Ruizhi, Ms. Niu Ruiqin, Wu Caixia and Wang Guizhi were released. Mr. Miao Yongli and his wife Ms. Niu Ruiying were detained in the detention center under 15-day custody. 

39. [Yinchuan City, Ningxia Province] Mr. Liu Sizu Missing

Mr. Liu Sizu from Xingqing District was called to the local police station on the morning of May 10, 2021. His whereabouts are unknown.

40. [Beijing] Ms. Fu Xiuqin Harassed

Ms. Fu Xiuqin was harassed at home on May 8, 2021. Zhang Xuewei, section head of the Jinding Sub-district Office in Shijingshan District, came to Ms. Fu’s home and threatened her in order to make her give up Falun Gong. Zhang Xuewei also threatened Ms. Fu’s daughter with her job in order to force her to cooperate with him to put pressure on her mother.
