(Minghui.org) A woman in Yitong County, Jilin Province was taken to the Jilin Province Women’s Prison on March 10, 2021 to serve a four-year term for her faith in Falun Gong.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Zhang Lijuan and her son Mr. Cao Boyu were arrested on July 20, 2020. They were reported by postal workers for mailing New Year’s greeting cards to the public with information about Falun Gong in nearby Liaoyuan City in January. While Mr. Cao was released one month later, Ms. Zhang remains in custody.

The police submitted Ms. Zhang’s case to the Xi’an District Procuratorate in Liaoyuan on August 25, 2020. She was later indicted and had her case moved to the Xi’an District Court.

Ms. Zhang was sentenced to four years with a 3,000-yuan fine on November 11, 2020. She appealed the verdict, but her appeal was rejected by the Liaoyuan City Intermediate Court.

Prior to her latest arrest and sentencing, Ms. Zhang was previously arrested on June 8, 2017 for talking to people about Falun Gong at a market. She was held at the Yitong County Detention Center for 15 days.
