(Minghui.org) A resident of Qiqihar City, Heilongjiang Province was arrested on March 29, 2021 for his faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. His daughter, who has a mental disability, is now left at home with no one to take care of her.
In the days leading up to Mr. Yang Licheng’s arrest, the police and residential committee staff members harassed him several times. Dong, the director of Zhanqian Police Station who led Mr. Yang’s arrest, revealed that it was the Political and Legal Affairs Committee (an extra-judiciary agency tasked with persecuting Falun Gong) that ordered the persecution of Mr. Yang.
Mr. Yang, in his 70s, has been repeatedly targeted during the past 22 years for upholding his faith. He was severely tortured while being held at the Fuyu Forced Labor Camp in 2000, at the Tiefeng District Police Department in 2009, and at the Tailai Prison between 2010 and 2013.
Torture reenactment: Head covered with plastic bag
Mr. Yang recounted that following his arrest on June 5, 2009, the police forced him to sit in a metal chair, then covered his head with a plastic bag, handcuffed his hands behind his back, and attached electrodes to his thumbs and genitals to shock him. His body kept twitching and he had extreme chest pain. The officers later pushed him down and tied his head to his feet, while still keeping him handcuffed behind his back. He perspired so much that his sweat formed a puddle on the floor.
Mr. Yang was sentenced to four years in December and taken to the Tailai Prison in January 2010. The prison guards forced him to squat when he refused to write a statement renouncing Falun Gong. He shared the bed with several inmates and could only sleep on his side. The inmates once deprived him of sleep for three days. As soon as he closed his eyes, they poured cold water over his head.
In addition to the torture, he was also forced to sort chopsticks and toothpicks, and clean the bathrooms.
