(Minghui.org) A 75-year-old woman in Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, was recently sentenced to three years and three months for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Liang Zhanhong was arrested at home on April 10, 2020, after a security officer in her subdivision reported her for talking to him about Falun Gong. Residential committee members and police officers broke into her home, took her photo, and searched her bedroom. Her Falun Gong books and computer were confiscated. She was held in the Nanshan Detention Center.

Her family was recently informed of her verdict and told that she would be taken to Guangzhou Women’s Prison.

Over the past few years, the police and residential committee members harassed her several times, causing her family great distress. Her latest arrest has left her incapacitated husband in difficult circumstances, unable to find care.

Prior to practicing Falun Gong, Ms. Liang suffered from a long list of ailments, including migraine, Meniere’s disease, and cervical spine hyperostosis. Her husband also has a herniated disc and is almost paralyzed.

After Ms. Liang began to practice Falun Gong on September 7, 1998, her ailments soon disappeared and she lived by Falun Gong’s principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. She quickly stopped being self-centered and ill-tempered and learned to be considerate and to take self-interest lightly. Her relationship with her family members improved and she was praised for taking care of her mother-in-law after she fell ill.
