(Minghui.org) A 66-year-old woman in Yinchuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region was sentenced to four years on March 30, 2021 for her faith in Falun Gong. Ms. Luo Xinping is now awaiting the result of her appeal at the Yinchuan City Detention Center.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Luo was arrested on August 18, 2020, after she was reported for talking to a person about Falun Gong while shopping at a convenience store. Both her own home and her son’s home were ransacked.

The Xixia District Procuratorate approved her arrest on September 24, 2020. After the police submitted her case to the prosecutor on November 26, her lawyer had a brief communication with the prosecutor, Wang Jing, about her case.

The prosecutor indicted Ms. Luo around December 23 and moved her case to the Xixia District Court.

Ms. Luo stood trial on January 12, 2021. She stated that she hadn’t done anything wrong in practicing Falun Gong or trying to be a good person by following Falun Gong’s principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance. Her lawyer entered a not guilty plea for her and demanded her acquittal.

On March 30, Ms. Luo’s lawyer and family received the verdict. She was sentenced to four years with a 20,000-yuan fine on February 25. The judge waited a month before sending them the verdict.

Ms. Luo has filed an appeal with the Yinchuan City Intermediate Court. She is now awaiting the result at the Yinchuan City Detention Center, where she has been held since her arrest.

This isn’t the first time Ms. Luo has been targeted for her faith. She was previously arrested in June 2006 for talking to people about Falun Gong and given one year of forced labor. While serving time, she was forced to work more than ten hours each day, without pay. The intensive labor caused her legs to swell and she had difficulty using the toilet.

Ms. Luo was arrested again in February 2013 and later sentenced to four years. She was tortured in prison for upholding her faith. The authorities suspended her pension during her term.
