Additional Persecution News from China – December 17, 2021 (21 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today’s news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 17 cities or counties in 10 provinces, where at least 40 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Binzhou City, Shandong Province] Ms. Wang Yuying, Ms. Li Jing’e, and Ms. Zhao Chengjuan Sentenced to Prison

Ms. Wang Yuying, Ms. Li Jing’e, and Ms. Zhao Chengjuan were arrested when they talked to people about Falun Gong on June 3, 2020. They were released on bail with a fine of 10,000 yuan each. In December 2021, the Huimin County Police Department, 610 Office, and the Domestic Security Division reopened the cases against them.

They were sentenced to prison by the Huimin County Court on December 13, 2021. Ms. Wang and Ms. Li were each sentenced to one year in prison and fined 5,000 yuan. Ms. Zhao was sentenced to 9 months in prison and fined 3,000 yuan.

2. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Mr. Hou Xicai Sentenced to Two Years in Prison

Mr. Hou Xicai, from Mudanjiang City, was arrested by officers from the Harbin Railway Police Department on April 19, 2021. He was released on bail on May 19. Officers from the Harbin Railway Police Department officially arrested him on June 10, 2021. He was recently sentenced to two years in prison.

3. [Yueyang City, Hunan Province] Mr. Wu Siqing Arrested

Mr. Wu Siqing was arrested by about twenty plainclothes officers on the night of December 14, 2021.

4. [Shanghai] Ms. Cao Weiling and Ms. Cao Qingci’s Home Ransacked

Ms. Cao Weiling and her daughter Ms. Cao Qingci were reported to police when they distributed Falun Gong informational materials. Officers from the Pudong New District Domestic Security Division arrested them on July 9, 2021. They ransacked their home and confiscated 1000 yuan in cash with Falun Gong information printed on it. Ms. Cao and her daughter were detained in the Pudong New District Detention Center and released on July 29, 2021.

After being released, Ms. Cao and her daughter had to go to the local community committee office to undergo transformation sessions every week and then once every two weeks. They were forbidden to leave Shanghai on holidays and had to apply for permission if they wanted to leave Shanghai at other times.

5. [Suining City, Sichuan Province] Mr. Yang Wengui Detained

Officers from the local police station ransacked Mr. Yang Wengui’s home on November 25, 2021. They confiscated his Falun Gong books, a media player, and three MP3s. Ms. Yang was taken to the local police station on November 30 and interrogated there. He was pressured to tell where he got Falun Gong materials and other practitioners’ names. The officers also pressured him to sign the three statements, which he refused. Mr. Yang returned home on December 14, 2021, after being detained for 14 days.

6. [Gushi County, Henan Province] Mr. Liu Yu and His Wife Ms. Yang Ru Arrested

Officers from the Gushi County Police Department Domestic Security Division arrested Mr. Liu Yu at his home on December 7, 2021. They ransacked his home and confiscated his Falun Gong books. Next, the police went to his wife, Ms. Yang Ru’s workplace, the Gushi County Xinhe Hospital, and arrested her.

Mr. Liu and his wife were taken to the local detention center and held there. Ms. Yang went on a hunger strike to protest the arbitrary arrest and detention. She was released five days later. Mr. Liu has been held since then.

The police checked Ms. Yang’s cell phone and found her parents’ home address in Xinyang City. They contacted the Huaibin County Police Department in Xinyang City. The local police began harassing her parents and searched their home.

7. [Pingchang County, Sichuan Province] Ms. Lu Yonghui’s Home Ransacked

Officers from the Jinbao Police Station went to Ms. Lu Yonghui’s home on December 14, 2021. They said she was located through surveillance cameras when she was distributing Falun Gong materials. They took her to the police station, ransacked her home, and confiscated her Falun Gong books and materials. She was released that evening.

8. [Pengzhou City, Sichuan Province] Mr. Ni Laijian’s Fingerprints Forcibly Taken

Ji Huitian, the Zhihe Town Comprehensive Management Office director, led more than ten assistant officers to arrest Mr. Ni Laijian while he was working in the field on the afternoon of December 15, 2021. They took him to the Zhihe Town Guangming Road Police Station, where he was pressed to the ground with his hands behind his back and had his fingerprints forcibly taken.

9. [Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province] Ms. Wan Taoying Officially Arrested and Detained

Ms. Wan Taoying was arrested on November 26, 2021. She was then taken to the Nanchang City Detention Center and held there. Ms. Wan went on a hunger strike to protest the arbitrary arrest and detention.

When Ms. Wan’s detention period was about to expire on December 10, 2021, the Jinxian County Police Department officially arrested her. She was then taken to the Jinxian County Detention Center and held there.

10. [Huangshi City, Hubei Province] Ten Practitioners Arrested

Officers from the Huangshi City 610 Office and the local Police Station recently arrested at least ten practitioners. They were Ms. Zhang Zehui, Ms. Li Qiyao, Ms. Zhang Shufen, Mr. Cen Xuedong, Fang Tianxing (gender unknown), and Chen Xinyu (gender unknown). These practitioners were detained in the Huangshi City Detention Center. Mr. Wang Ziyu and his wife, Ms. Zhu Lei, were detained in the Yangxin County Detention Center.

Ms. Liu Donglan from Yangyin County was arrested at her daughter’s home. It was said that she was detained in Xialu County, the exact address is unknown.

An elderly practitioner surnamed Zeng in Xialu County was also recently arrested. 

11. [Beijing] Mr. Liu Zhihua Tried

Mr. Liu Zhihua, a retired employee of the Institute of Aerospace Materials and Processes, was arrested in April 2020 for talking to people about Falun Gong. He was later released on bail. In August 2021, he was tried by the Fengtai District Court.

12. [Feng’an County, Sichuan Province] Ms. Kang Guizhen Arrested

Ms. Kang Guizhen, from Feng’an County, had to stay away from home to avoid further persecution after being arrested many times. Officers from the Dujiangyan City Kuiguang Road Police Station arrested her when she was distributing Falun Gong materials on the morning of December 15, 2021. She was transferred to the Feng’an Police Department the same day.

13. [Dezhou City, Shandong Province] Ms. Liu Huilan’s Family Harassed

Xue Wei, from the Lingcheng District Police Department, went to Ms. Liu Huilan’s home on the afternoon of December 15, 2021. Ms. Liu was not at home at the time. He then told her family to pressure Ms. Liu to sign the three statements and submit them to the provincial government.

14. [Dezhou City, Shandong Province] Ms. Peng Fengyun’s Home Ransacked

Officers from the Pingyuan County Police Department ransacked Ms. Peng Fengyun’s home on December 14, 2021. The police claimed that surveillance cameras recorded her when she mailed information about Falun Gong.

15. [Xi’an City, Shaanxi Province] Ms. He Qiuling’s Pension Suspended

Ms. He Qiuling, 65, was sentenced to two years on January 28, 2016, because of her faith in Falun Gong. She returned home on January 27, 2018. The Xi’an City Pension Insurance Office stopped paying Ms. He’s pension in June 2021 because she did not give up practicing Falun Gong.

16. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Numerous Practitioners Harassed

Officers from the Xinfa Town, Daoli District, harassed many practitioners from September to December 2021. The practitioners include Ms. Yu Xiaofeng’s mother, almost 80 years old, and Mr. Liu Qingfu, in her seventies, Ms. Wu Zhaofang, and Ms. Liu Shuhua.

17. [Huangshi City, Hubei Province] Mr. Chen Songkui Taken to Brainwashing Center

Officers from the Shenjiaying Police Station and the Fupenshan Community Office repeatedly called and harassed Mr. Chen Songkui and his wife, Ms. Cai Guixiang. Mr. Chen was taken to a brainwashing center by the Huangshi City Political and Legal Affairs Committee on December 14, 2021. It was said he would be detained there for one month.

18. [Jinan City, Shandong Province] Mr. Xu Fangquan Fined 20,000 Yuan

Mr. Xu Fangquan was recorded by the surveillance camera when he distributed Falun Gong materials on December 9, 2021. Officers from the Yunshan Police Department arrested him, ransacked his home, and confiscated his Falun Gong materials. Mr. Xu was then held in the Lianyungang Detention Center.

Deputy director Li Junlong called Mr. Xu’s family and told them to bring 20,000 yuan in cash the next day. They then released him on bail on the afternoon of December 15, 2021.

19. [Maoming City, Guangdong Province] Mr. Lin Licheng Arrested

Mr. Lin Licheng was arrested by officers from the Maoming City High-Speed Rail Police Station in 2020 because he carried a Falun Gong book and a few bills with Falun Gong information printed on them. He was then detained at the Maoming No. 1 Detention Center. He was released after his family paid money to the officers.

Mr. Lin did not dare to practice Falun Gong after he returned home. Soon after, he suffered a stroke and was taken to the hospital for treatment. The doctor told him there was no medical treatment. After returning home, Mr. Lin began to practice Falun Gong again. Officers from the local police station arrested him again after learning about it. Mr. Lin was held in the Maoming City No. 1. Detention Center.

20. [Anqing City, Anhui Province] Mr. Jiang Xiaogen Taken to Brainwashing Center

Mr. Jiang Xiaogen, a retired teacher from the Anqing Business Institute, was forcibly taken from his home by four plainclothes officers on the morning of December 15, 2021. The next day, his son, who lives in another city, received a phone call, saying that Mr. Jiang was held in a brainwashing center in Daguan District and would be detained there for about fifteen days.

21. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Qu Peihua and Two Practitioners Arrested

Officers from the Shangzhi Police Station in Daoli District broke into Ms. Qu Peihua’s home on November 24, 2021. They arrested her and another practitioner who was at her home. They confiscated her laptop computer, a photo of Falun Gong’s founder, and her Falun Gong books.

A male practitioner surnamed Xu was arrested at home on the same day. His computer and Falun Gong books were confiscated. They were taken to the detention centers in Bin County and Bayan County and held there for 15 days. They were released on December 4, 2021.
