(Minghui.org) A mother and daughter in Anyang City, Henan Province were sentenced to prison for their faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
A group of officers from Wenfeng District Domestic Security Office broke into Ms. Liu Fenglan’s home on September 3, 2020 and arrested her and her daughter, Ms. Zhang Haiyan, who is in her 50s. The police confiscated Ms. Zhang’s cellphone and Falun Gong related materials. Both women were held at the Anyang City Detention Center.
Around the same time, another dozen local practitioners were harassed and had their homes ransacked. The police targeted them upon finding their sending Falun Gong related information on WeChat.
The Wenfeng District Procuratorate approved Ms. Liu and Ms. Zhang’s arrests in October 2020. It was recently confirmed by Minghui.org that Ms. Liu has been sentenced to four years and Ms. Zhang to three years. Details about their sentencing are not clear.
Ms. Liu, in her 70s, used to suffer from migraine headaches, long-term colds, and poor health, which caused her to have a short temper. She sought medical treatment and took medicine for years, causing her tongue to become black. After practicing Falun Gong, all of her illnesses disappeared, she was able to control her temper, and her family life became harmonious.
With the onset of the persecution, Ms. Liu was arrested in 1999 when she traveled to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong.
She was arrested again on November 1, 2011 while walking on the street. A dozen officers ransacked her home, terrifying her then teenage child. Months later, Ms. Liu was sentenced to three years by the Wenfeng District Court.
