(Minghui.org) Six Chengdu City, Sichuan Province residents were harassed in July 2020 for their faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
On July 9, the secretary of Tongren Village called three practitioners, surnamed Liu, Zeng and Li, respectively, and asked them to come to her office the next day. The practitioners went there the next morning and met with her and several other local officials.
The officials asked about the practitioners' motivation to practice Falun Gong. The practitioners said it was for improving health and becoming better citizens. They also urged the officials not to believe the propaganda put out by the Chinese Communist regime to slander Falun Gong.
One official threatened, “You’d better not go around and distribute flyers. The children of Falun Gong practitioners won’t be admitted to colleges, nor can they find jobs in the government or state-owned companies.” The practitioners refused to renounce Falun Gong as ordered. They left soon upon finding that another official was secretly taking photos of them.
In mid-July, Ms. Guo Shirong received a call from the residential committee director, who told her not to practice Falun Gong anymore.
Also in July, Ms. Xia was summoned to the local 610 Office, an extralegal agency created to persecute Falun Gong. A 610 Office staff member yelled at her, ordering her to turn in her Falun Gong books and took a picture of her. They also attempted to force her to sign prepared statements renouncing Falun Gong, but she refused to comply.
Another practitioner, Ms. Xian, was summoned to the police station and questioned as to whether she still practiced Falun Gong. After she said yes, the local Party secretary threatened her with her children’s jobs, took her picture and ordered her to sign a statement to renounce Falun Gong. She also refused to comply.
