(Minghui.org) I’m the chief ophthalmologist at a well-known hospital in China, and I’ve practiced Falun Dafa for 24 years.
In May 1996, my mother and I participated in a nine-day workshop that included Master Li Hongzhi’s lectures. The only thing I knew about Falun Dafa was that it taught practitioners to follow the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and to be good people. I wanted to be a good person, so I decided to practice Falun Dafa.
Our compassionate and great Master resolved many of my health issues. One week after I began practicing, I developed a fever. It stopped after three days and then I had loose bowels. My work was not affected, and two weeks later I was fine. After that, my body was free of illnesses. When I walked, I felt as if I were being pushed. I knew that Master was taking care of me and I vowed to never stop practicing.
Conducting Myself According to Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance at Work
As a practitioner I asked myself how I could apply the teachings at work. The first thing was to be kind to my patients. I was considerate of them and not accept their money. (In China, a patient has to pay the doctor a bribe to ensure good treatment. The bigger the bribe, the better the treatment).
A month after I began practicing Falun Dafa, I had a patient from out of town. Her son insisted on giving me 200 yuan. I was not able to give it back to him so I used it to pay her hospital fees. The operation was successful and they were very satisfied with my treatment. The day before his mother was discharged from the hospital, I gave her son the receipt for the 200-yuan hospitalization fee. He told everyone, “I cannot believe there’s still a doctor like her.”
In 1998, a lady in her 70s came for a consultation. It was inconvenient for her to go up or downstairs to find a doctor, so I called around and found one for her. However, the doctor on duty asked me to treat her, so I did.
I helped get her admitted to the hospital, but my superior did her surgery. While she was hospitalized, I checked her eyes every day and gave her injections. Everything went well. I told her that her other eye should also be operated on. She said, “I won’t do it now. I’ll wait until you can do the surgery and have you do it for me.” Her wish came true, and I did her cataract surgery more than ten years later.
There were many other patients like her who asked for me. I was always very touched when I heard this. I was grateful to Master because he taught me how to be a good person following the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.
This old lady appreciated me very much and wanted to give me money. I declined. One week after she was discharged from the hospital, she came and gave me thermal underwear. She came with her grandson and brought me hot food during my night shift. I was so touched. I was even more grateful to Master for his teachings.
A farmer stuffed money into my hands after she heard I would be operating on her child the next day. I said, “I don’t want your money. You’ve already spent a lot on your son. You don’t need to do this. I’ll do my best to help him.”
She wept when she heard this and said, “We are very poor and we sold everything we could to pay for our son’s treatment. Everyone told me that doctors nowadays won’t do their best if we don’t bribe them. Please accept it.”
I told her again to keep her money and promised I would do my best. She left relieved.
Her son’s operation was very successful. The other patients talked to each other about it. They said, “This doctor is good—she treats her patients well, her technical skills are good, and she does not accept bribes.” Most of my patients came through word of mouth.
My Skills Improve Rapidly
I follow Falun Dafa’s principles to interact with my colleagues, so everyone is willing to work with me. They say that I have strong technical skills, that I am a good person, and that I am always considerate of other people. To repay my kindness, all my colleagues work hard, and my team works together well.
With Master’s blessing, my technical skills have advanced by leaps and bounds. People I’ve worked with have said that I’ve improved amazingly. I was able to learn a certain type of surgery by observing it once and was then able to do it well.
I mainly do fundus surgery, which includes retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, complicated eye trauma, and so on. These surgeries are the most difficult and risky ones in ophthalmology. However, my success rate was 100 percent. This may sound impossible, but it’s true. My operations have been recognized by experts in major hospitals in China, and some of my cases have been used as demonstrations.
Patients Recover after Knowing the Truth about Dafa and Quitting the CCP
One patient, a farmer in his 40s, suffered from diabetic retinopathy and diabetic nephropathy. He also suffered from hepatitis B and cirrhotic ascites and was hospitalized several times. He asked me to operate on him because he was almost blind in one eye and had poor vision in the other. I examined his eyes and saw that it was very serious. The operation was very difficult and risky. Beforehand, I told him the truth about Falun Dafa, and he quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its affiliates. I asked him to remember, “Falun Dafa is good. Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.”
I operated on the eye that was almost blind. The surgery was very complicated and lasted four and a half hours. Four months later, I took out the silicone oil in his eye, and his vision returned to 0.15. In fact, given his initial condition, this was a miracle. A month later, I operated on his other eye.
When the patient was brought into the operating room, my attending physician said, “The first two pre-op tests showed he was positive for hepatitis B but why is the test normal now?” She then found the patient’s three previous hospitalization records, which showed he had hepatitis B, cirrhosis, and ascites.
When this patient saw me again during the follow-up exam, he said, “Doctor, my hepatitis B is gone. The doctor in my local hospital said I no longer have hepatitis B. He said it was incredible!”
His eyesight improved to 0.15 in one eye and 1.0 in another. He could ride his motorcycle again. He and his family were very happy and said that he was blessed because they sincerely said, “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.” They appreciate Master and Dafa.
A patient in her 60s was blind in her left eye for many years. The vision in her right eye decreased because the retinal veins were blocked. The treatment for this disease requires an injection of anti-VEGF drugs into the eyes once every 45 days or so. It cost 7,200 yuan in the early stages and 5,700 yuan later. The cost could not be reimbursed by her benefits. It was difficult for an ordinary family to afford this. Before the eighth injection, I told her the facts about Falun Dafa and asked her to quit the CCP and its affiliates.
One day she said, “A practitioner told me about Falun Dafa while we were on the bus. I knew Falun Dafa was good. My mother-in-law practiced it before. That practitioner asked me to quit the CCP and its affiliates but I didn’t. I believe what you told me. You are so kind, and you are so kind to us. I can feel that you are different from the other doctors. I will quit the CCP.” She repeated, “Falun Dafa is good! Falun Dafa is good!”
Ever since then, she has sincerely said, “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good” every day. She also asked all her family members to quit the CCP and its affiliates.
She hasn’t had another injection for nearly a year, and her vision remains at 1.0. Every time she comes in for a follow-up exam with me, she says sincerely, “Falun Dafa is good!”
I have many amazing stories from my years of cultivating. Master has given me so much. Only by cultivating diligently can I repay Master!
