(Minghui.org) A group of police officers rushed into 81-year-old Ms. Gao Qiongxian’s home in Kunming City, Yunnan Province on March 23, 2020 and ransacked her place without any explanation.
Ms. Gao’s Falun Gong books and related materials were confiscated. She was then brought to Jinjiahe Police Station, where they took her photograph and interrogated her. The police threatened her, saying that they had videos of her distributing materials about Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chines Communist Party since 1999.
The police soon realized that they had arrested the wrong person – they intended to arrest another Falun Gong practitioner named Ms. Yang Deying, not Ms Gao.
Despite having realized the mistake, the police refused to release Ms. Gao. After forcing her to do a physical examination, they sent her to Kunming City Detention Center, which, however, refused to accept her due to her advanced age.
The police took Ms. Gao back to the police station, held her there for two days and extorted 1,000 yuan from her family.
This wasn’t the first time that the police in Kunming made this mistake while carrying out the persecution of Falun Gong.
On June 2, 2011, a group of officers from Xishan District Domestic Security Division broke into Ms. Zhao Haiying’s home and attempted to arrest her.
As Ms. Zhao had gone out grocery shopping, the police arrested her husband, Mr. Cheng Hongchou.
When the police brought Mr. Cheng downstairs, Ms. Zhao came back. The police also arrested her and took the couple to the police station.
It turned out the police intended to arrest another person with the same name as Ms. Zhao.
After the police realized that they had arrested the wrong person, they released Ms. Zhao in the evening, but continued to hold Mr. Cheng in custody, citing that they caught him browsing the Minghui website when they broke into his house.
The Kunming City Intermediate Court later sentenced Mr. Cheng to three years in prison with three years probation for his faith in Falun Gong.
