Letting Go of the Attachment to Lust
(Minghui.org) I was recently hired by a big company and encountered an attachment that I had always thought I took lightly—that of lust. All of the male colleagues I work with are well-educated and command a high salary. Sometimes, I didn’t know how to balance my relationships with them. One of them was even interested in me.
It was about a month into my job that I was controlled by the attachment of lust and did something that didn’t align with Dafa's requirements. I tried to memorize and recite Zhuan Falun, but I still couldn’t control myself. I read experience-sharing articles on the Minghui website – to no avail. Even participating in group Fa study didn’t help. It wasn’t until recently that I was able to let go of the thought of lust.
I had two dreams where the police were looking for me to arrest me. No matter how hard I tried to escape, I couldn’t.
When I did the Falun Dafa exercises the next day, I was determined to completely eliminate lust and not allow it to occupy my mind. At that moment, my true thoughts separated from the thought of lust, because the thought of lust was not from my true self. Rather, the attachment to lust was just a notion that I treated as myself and followed.
If I wanted to completely eliminate the thoughts of lust, I had to first distinguish that any thoughts of lust didn’t come from me. My true self does not seek anything. No matter what emotion or image appeared in my mind, it was due to lust, which needed to be destroyed. Eliminating lust also eliminates the old forces' interference.
After that, my thoughts became quiet, and I completely got rid of being controlled by lust.
Master Li said, “Cultivation depends on one’s own efforts, while the transformation of gong is done by one’s master.” (Lecture One, Zhuan Falun)
In the process of eliminating lust, I had a new understanding of the Fa. As practitioners, we must let go of such an attachment so that Master can help us.
“To cultivate, you know, a person has to find himself and cultivate himself. If you’re able to differentiate it from yourself and think, “Those aren’t me. Think if you want to, but I want to become tranquil. Let’s see how long you can keep running off like that,” then treat them as others’ thoughts. If you can really find yourself and differentiate yourself from them, this method will work.” (Teaching the Fa at the Conference in Europe)
When we cannot do what Master says, and when a thought becomes too strong, it will create an illusion. It may seem useless to separate our true self from the attachment, but, in fact, many attachments—and bad thoughts—can be removed layer by layer.
We must always distinguish and remove thoughts that aren’t aligned with the Fa. Otherwise, when an attachment becomes too intense, it can lead to a bad cultivation state. Sometimes, when our thoughts run wild and we don’t correct them in time, the evil will use this as an excuse to interfere with us.
When we use ordinary standards to measure ourselves, we are ordinary people. We are practitioners during the Fa-rectification period and can only act in accordance with Dafa.
