(Minghui.org) A Linyi City, Shandong Province resident is facing trial for not renouncing his faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Zhu Tonggui, 45, has been held incommunicado at Linyi City Detention Center since his arrest on May 23, 2018.
Although he should have been released on bail after the Lanshan District Procuratorate returned his case to the police for insufficient evidence, the staff members from Linyi City Domestic Security Division refused to release him and transferred him to a local brainwashing center instead.
When his family and lawyer went to there to visit him on July 27, 2018, Su Wei, the head of the brainwashing center, threatened and struck the lawyer.
The police later fabricated more evidence against Mr. Zhu and submitted his case to the procuratorate again. Prosecutor Wang Yugang accepted his case and indicted him in June 2019.
Mr. Zhu’s 90-year-old mother was terrified by the police brutality during his arrest that she fell ill and became bedridden afterwards. She is now having trouble finding a caregiver.
Mr. Zhu was arrested together with his older brother, Mr. Zhu Tongchao, on May 23, 2018. The police confiscated many of their belongings. One officer pointed a gun at Mr. Zhu Tongchao’s head to force him to cooperate with them.
The two brothers were brought to Lanshan Police Station for interrogation that evening. The police also collected their blood samples and took their pictures. They were sent to the detention center the next day.
While the current case status of the older brother remains to be investigated, it has been confirmed by Minghui.org that the younger Mr. Zhu continued to be interrogated and tortured at the detention center.
The guards savagely beat him and forced him to wear handcuffs and shackles, connecting to each other in a way that he had to bend his body all the time and couldn’t stand up.
After Mr. Zhu was transferred to the brainwashing center, the guards once deprived him of sleep for three days.
