(Minghui.org) After spending ten years in prison, a former businessman is facing prosecution again for not renouncing his faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Han Xu, 53, a resident of Lanzhou City, Gansu Province, was arrested on May 29, 2019, after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. He was held at Taoshuping Detention Center for 15 days and transferred to Xiguoyuan Detention Center for criminal detention on June 13.
The police submitted Mr. Han's case to the Chengguan Procuratorate on June 20, 2019. Prosecutor Zhang Jing is now in the process of approving his arrest.
She said Mr. Han's case is confidential and refused to share any information with his family, when they called her on June 24 to inquire about his case.
Su Xiaolei, the police officer in charge of Mr. Han's case, also refused to provide any information to his family.
Mr. Han's family visited prosecutor Zhang on June 25 and submitted a proposal of not approving the arrest. Zhang said it was not possible for her to do that.
Zhang also said: “Because he has been sentenced to ten years before, he might get a heavy sentence this time.”
In some court rulings against Falun Gong practitioners, the judge cited the practitioners' previous wrongful prison terms against their faith as their “crime” to charge them again.
Meanwhile, Zhang refused to provide any specific legal basis she uses to press charges against Mr. Han.
Mr. Han used to work at the commercial department of Gansu Province Carpet Import and Export Corporation. He was also a translator for the provincial Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation.
After the persecution of Falun Gong started, he was arrested multiple times and sentenced to ten years in prison. He was beaten multiple times, handcuffed behind his back for long hours, shocked with electric batons, and also locked in solitary confinement for six years because of not giving up his faith.
